Okay, so I wanted to get a good look at the Hokies’ football depth chart for the upcoming season. I’m a big Virginia Tech fan, and I always like to see who’s playing where.
First, I tried just, you know, thinking about where I might find it. Obviously, the official athletics site would be a good place to start, right?
So I went to the Virginia Tech athletics website. I navigated to the football section, looked around for “roster” or “depth chart”. I found the roster easy peasy, but the depth chart wasn’t posted “officially”.
Next, I did a basic search on Google, for “hokie football depth chart”.
Bingo! A bunch of articles and forum posts came up.I checked some sports news sites. The articles were okay – they gave me some idea of who the starters would be, but nothing super detailed.
Then, I got into the forums.
- I spent some time digging through forum discussions. This was actually pretty useful, though you always have to take forum stuff with a grain of salt. Fans get things wrong sometimes, or they’re just speculating.
- I looked for posts from people who seemed to know what they were talking about – you know, the ones who go to all the practices and stuff.
After combining information from the various message boards, I put together my own version of what I thought the depth chart was going to look like.
It was a mix of what I saw on a few different sites, plus a little bit of my own best guess based on what I’ve seen from the team before. It definitely wasn’t official, but it gave me a pretty good idea of what to expect.
