Oh, dear me, you know how it is, don’t ya? Sometimes, them Yankees got to sit and wait just like us folks when the rain comes down, heavy as a bucket of water. They don’t get to play their game right away when the skies open up. No sir, not always! Now, when a game gets delayed ‘cause of rain, it’s what they call a “rain delay,” and that means folks gotta wait. And I mean, wait. Sometimes it’s just a little bit of drizzle, and other times, it’s a full-blown downpour that could last for hours. Ain’t nobody like to sit around in the rain, not the players and certainly not the folks in the stands!
Now, if you’re planning to go to a Yankees game and it gets delayed, well, let me tell you something, you ain’t out of luck just yet. You see, if the rain keeps falling and the game don’t get started, they’ll give you what they call a “rain check.” Yep, that’s a special ticket that’ll let you come back for another game later on. Ain’t that nice? But, you gotta make sure you know what’s going on, ‘cause they might reschedule the game to another day. And sometimes, they do that in a doubleheader, which means you might get to see two games instead of just one. Now, that ain’t too shabby if you ask me!
But now, if the game starts and the rain comes down after, that’s when things get tricky. The players, they’ll sit around and wait, hoping that the rain’ll stop and they can finish what they started. If the rain don’t let up, well, then they’ll call it off. And I tell you, sometimes they wait for hours, but if the game gets to the middle of the fifth inning, the umpire might just call it a “complete game,” even if they ain’t finished playing all the way through. Ain’t that somethin’?
So, what do you do if you got tickets to a rained-out game? First off, don’t go throwin’ them tickets away! That’s important! You can use your rain check ticket to get into another game, one that don’t get rained out. It’s just like buying a new ticket, but you don’t gotta pay again. Ain’t that good news? But now, not all games are the same, so make sure you check if the game you want to go to is part of the rain check deal. You can usually exchange it for a ticket to a similar game, one that’s about the same price and in a similar spot in the stadium. Just like pickin’ a seat at church, you know? Gotta make sure it’s a good one!
There’s times when the rain don’t stop, and the game just gets called off, no reschedule. That happens, too, especially if the weather’s real bad and there ain’t no way to finish the game. But, if you’re lucky and the rain lets up in time, you’ll get to watch the Yankees play, just like you’d planned. And when that happens, it’s worth the wait. You can bet on that!
Speaking of which, when the Yankees play at Yankee Stadium, you better believe it’s somethin’ special. I’ve heard folks say that when you’re there, you can feel the history of the place in the air. But, I gotta tell you, you don’t want to be sittin’ there in the rain, do ya? It’s a real test of patience, that’s for sure. Sometimes, you get rained on for hours, and other times, you might only have to wait for a little bit. But either way, you gotta be ready for the delay, and just enjoy the time with folks around you. You never know when the rain’ll let up, but when it does, oh boy, the game’s on, and you can cheer your heart out!
So, remember, if you ever find yourself at a game and it starts rainin’, don’t get upset! Just sit back, relax, and wait for the rain to pass. You got that rain check, and you can always use it for another time if the game doesn’t go on. And I tell you what, when it does, it’s gonna be worth every minute you spent waitin’ for it!
