Okay, so I’ve been trying to fix my slice, and I heard about this “wristband drill” thing. Figured I’d give it a shot and see if it actually works. Here’s how it went down:

Getting Started
First, I grabbed a regular sweat wristband – the kind you use for tennis or whatever. Nothing fancy. I slipped it onto my lead wrist (I’m a righty, so that’s my left wrist). The idea is to keep that wrist flat during the swing, which supposedly helps prevent the clubface from opening up too much.
The Practice Swings
I started with some slow-motion practice swings, really focusing on keeping the wristband flat against the back of my hand. It felt awkward, I’m not gonna lie. Like, I had to really concentrate on not letting my wrist hinge too much.
- First few swings: Super weird. Totally changed my usual feel.
- After 10-15 swings: Started to get a little more comfortable, but still felt restricted.
- Focus point: Really trying to feel that flat wrist at the top of the backswing.
Hitting Some Balls
Alright, time for the real test. I teed up some balls and took some swings with the wristband on. I wouldn’t say the results were miraculous, instantly straight. But I did notice something.
- The Good: I definitely felt like I was making more solid contact. Less of that glancing blow that sends the ball slicing off to the right.
- The Bad: My distance was down a bit. Probably because I was so focused on my wrist, I wasn’t swinging as freely.
- The Promising: A few shots actually went pretty straight! Not perfect, but a definite improvement.
My Final Thought
So, is the wristband a miracle cure? Nah. But it’s a pretty simple drill that seems to help. I think the key is that it forces you to be more aware of your wrist position. Will I keep using it? Yeah, I think so. At least for a while, until I can get that flat-wrist feeling ingrained in my muscle memory. It is worth it!
