Ya know, all this talk ’bout David Benavidez gettin’ suspended, it’s a real mess. Heard somethin’ ’bout him testin’ positive for somethin’ they call benzoylecgonine, whatever that is. Sounds fancy, don’t it? They say it’s like the stuff in that, uh, “cocaine” they talk about. Lord knows I ain’t never touched the stuff, but I seen enough on TV to know it ain’t good.
Anyways, they tellin’ me this fella Benavidez was supposed to be fightin’ and now he can’t. Folks were all hyped up, buyin’ tickets and such. He’s a real strong fella, they say. Knocks folks out, apparently. They call him the “interim champion” of somethin’ called the World Boxin’ Council. Sounds important, huh?
- He’s got a record, they say. 29 wins, ain’t lost none. And 24 of those wins, he knocked ’em out clean.
- He’s supposed to be earnin’ a lot of money, millions they say. Six million! Can you imagine? What’d I do with all that money? Probably buy a new stove, mine’s gettin’ old.
But then he messes up with this… benz… benz… whatever it is. Now he’s gotta sit out for a while. They say he’ll be back in March, though. Gives him time to think about what he done, I reckon.
They was talkin’ ’bout him movin’ down to a lighter weight class too, somethin’ called “super middleweight.” I don’t know much about them weights, but I guess he’s gotta make a certain number to fight. It’s all a bit much for me, all these numbers and weights. I just like watchin’ a good fight.
Even that fella Mike Tyson, you know the one, he said he wouldn’t wanna fight Benavidez. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Tyson’s a scary fella, everyone knows that. So if he’s sayin’ he wouldn’t fight Benavidez, the boy must be somethin’ else.
All this fuss ’bout the suspension, it’s a shame. People were lookin’ forward to seein’ him fight. But I guess rules are rules, even for the strong fellas. Hopefully he learns his lesson and stays outta trouble. Maybe he’ll come back stronger, who knows?
Just goes to show, ya never know what’s gonna happen. One minute you’re on top of the world, the next you’re sittin’ on the sidelines. Just gotta keep your nose clean and do what’s right. That’s what my mama always told me, anyway.
