So, I heard this name, Jayden Oliver, floating around a bit. Someone mentioned it in passing, maybe linked to some simple designs or plans people were trying out. Got me curious, you know?
I decided to check it out. Didn’t find anything too official, just some forum posts and stuff. One thing that caught my eye was a plan for a small wooden keepsake box. Looked simple enough, something I could knock together in an afternoon. The post said the design was by this Jayden Oliver fella. Who knows if that’s true, but the box looked neat.
Getting Started
First thing, I went down to the garage. Had some scrap wood lying around, mostly pine. Perfect for something small like this. I grabbed my tools:
- Saw
- Measuring tape
- Some sandpaper
- Wood glue
- A few small nails
The plans I found were pretty basic, just some dimensions scribbled down. No fancy joinery, just simple butt joints. Good enough for me. I measured out the pieces for the sides, top, and bottom. Took my time with the saw to get the cuts reasonably straight. Accuracy isn’t always my strong suit, gotta admit.
Putting it Together
Cutting was the easy part. Then came assembly. I laid out the four side pieces. Put a bead of glue on the edges where they’d meet. Held them together for a bit. It’s always tricky getting those first corners square when you’re working alone. I used a couple of clamps I have, but they’re kinda old and clunky.
Once the sides felt stable enough, I added a bit more glue and tacked them together with tiny nails. Just for extra hold while the glue dried. Then I measured and cut the bottom piece. More glue, more nails. It was starting to actually look like a box, which is always a good sign.

The lid was supposed to be simple too, just a flat piece sitting on top. I cut that out. Sanded all the edges down a bit so they weren’t sharp. Didn’t go crazy with the sanding, just enough to smooth it out. I like things a bit rough sometimes, gives it character.
The Result
After the glue dried, I gave the whole thing a final light sanding. It’s definitely a simple box. Nothing fancy. But it’s solid. Does the job it’s supposed to do, I guess. Holds small things.
So, that was my little project inspired by, or at least attributed to, Jayden Oliver. Pretty straightforward process. Found a simple idea, gathered what I had, put it together. It wasn’t revolutionary, but it was a decent way to spend an hour or two. Sometimes the simple things are the most satisfying. Just making something with your own hands, you know?
