Alright, so, I got into this whole Greer Johnson thing. It’s been a wild ride, I gotta say. Started off just poking around, you know, like you do. I stumbled upon this name, Germaine Greer. Turns out, she’s a big deal, an Australian-born English writer, and a feminist who was all about women’s sexual freedom. Her book, “The Female Eunuch,” published way back in 1970, was apparently like a bible for feminists.
I was hooked. I had to know more. So, I dug deeper. This woman, Greer, she had a rough start in life, growing up in Melbourne in the 1940s. I tried to imagine what that must have been like. I followed her career, her relationships – she had ’em with both men and women, mind you – her travels, and her home life. It was all so fascinating!
Exploring Greer’s Ideas
What really got me was her take on the sexual revolution. She was disappointed, deeply so. The vision she had, it was all about DIY, feminism, and being anti-capitalist. She thought it went sideways, and that frustrated me too.
- Diving into Different Fields: I found myself jumping from one subject to another, just like Greer did. One minute I was reading about literature, the next I was into history, then sociology. It was a whirlwind!
- Connecting with Others: I started talking to people about Greer, sharing what I learned. Some folks were as intrigued as I was, others, not so much. But it was great to have those conversations, to hear different perspectives.
The Graphic Novel
Then, get this, I found out about this graphic novel in progress, “The Girl Who Flew Away” by M. Dean. It’s about this story that spans decades, set in Key West. I’ve never been there, but the way it was described, it sounded beautiful, but also kinda alien. Just like Greer’s life in a way. I got myself a copy and started reading it. The artwork is amazing, and the story, well, it’s something else. I’m still working my way through it, but it’s definitely got me thinking.
So, yeah, that’s my Greer Johnson journey so far. It’s been a mix of learning, exploring, and connecting with others. I’m not sure where it’s going to take me next, but I’m excited to find out. It’s like, I started with this one name, and now I’ve got a whole world of ideas and stories swirling around in my head. Pretty cool, huh?
