So, I got this idea in my head the other week. Saw some wrestling stuff online, you know? Clips flying around. And this name, Cooper Corder, popped up. Looked like a tough kid, really going at it on the mat.

It kinda got me thinking. Not about becoming a pro wrestler, heck no. Way too old and creaky for that nonsense. But just about, like, the basics. Could I even do a simple takedown or escape? Curiosity, I guess.
My “Training” Begins
First thing, I didn’t buy any gear. No fancy singlet or wrestling shoes for me. Just my old sweats and a patch of carpet in the living room. Figured if Cooper Corder started somewhere basic, so could I. Probably a bad idea in hindsight.
I pulled up some videos. Basic stance, level changes, trying a simple double-leg takedown… on the air, mostly. Felt pretty foolish.
Here’s how it really went down:
- Tried the stance. Knees bent, arms out. Felt okay for about 10 seconds, then my back started complaining.
- Attempted a ‘level change’. Basically squatting down fast. Nearly pulled something.
- Then, the big move: the double-leg takedown simulation. I lunged forward, imagining grabbing someone’s legs.
The Grand Finale
Well, the lunging part? Didn’t go as planned. Tripped over my own feet. Landed kinda hard on the carpet. Didn’t hurt myself badly, thankfully, just my pride mostly. Lay there for a second thinking, “Yeah, Cooper Corder makes this look way easier.”

My cat just stared at me. Probably thought I’d finally lost it.
So, what did I learn? Wrestling is hard. Seriously hard. Even the most basic stuff takes practice, real practice, not just flailing around in your living room. And maybe stick to watching guys like Cooper Corder do their thing from the safety of my couch. My living room carpet and my back will thank me. It was a short-lived experiment, let’s just say that.
