Alright, so I got really into MLB The Show 24 lately, especially Diamond Dynasty. Kept running into guys online who were just painting corners, making my hitters look silly. Then I faced someone throwing from down low, like, way down low – a submariner. It completely messed up my timing. So, I thought, hey, I gotta try this myself. Find out who the good submarine guys are in this year’s game.
Starting the Hunt
First thing I did was just jump into the main rosters outside of DD. Just wanted to see the animations, you know? Went team by team, looked at the pitching motions in the editor. Takes a while, but it gives you a feel. Found a few guys right off the bat with those super low arm slots. Guys like Adam Cimber, Tyler Rogers, Tim Hill sometimes feels low-ish. Made a little mental note.
Then, I dove into Diamond Dynasty. That’s where the real action is, with all the different cards. Fired up the Community Market. This part was kinda tricky. You can’t just filter by “submarine delivery.” I wish you could! So, I had to rely on memory and searching names I already knew or suspected.
- Searched for Cimber’s cards.
- Looked up Tyler Rogers.
- Tried remembering guys from past games who threw funky.
I also started looking at pitcher stats more closely. Control and Break seemed super important for these guys. If they can’t locate or get movement from down there, hitters will just tee off once they adjust. So I started filtering by those stats combined with searching names.
Putting Them to the Test
Got my hands on a couple of cards. Nothing too fancy at first, just some live series guys or lower golds. Took them into some Conquest games and Mini Seasons to get a feel without the pressure of online ranked games.
First impressions? It’s different, for sure. The release point throws people off, even the CPU sometimes. That low-angle sinker or slider can be absolutely filthy if you locate it right. It just comes in looking like a meatball and then dives out of the zone or jams hitters.
But, man, if you miss your spot? Trouble. Leaving a submarine pitch up in the zone is basically batting practice for the other guy. Fastballs from that angle also look slower, so you can’t just rely on heat. Gotta mix speeds and locations constantly.
Finding My Guys
After messing around for a bit, a few pitchers started to stand out for me.
Tyler Rogers cards usually have insane break. His slider moving away from righties is tough, and the sinker coming in is nasty too. Control is key with him.
Adam Cimber is another one. Maybe not as much break sometimes, depending on the card, but his control is often pretty good, and he just dots the corners. Really relies on deception.
Sometimes you find legends or flashback cards with submarine deliveries too. Those can be gold if they have good stats. I remember facing a flashback Darren O’Day card that was a nightmare.

It really comes down to finding a submariner whose pitch mix and control you feel comfortable with. You need to be able to hit the corners and change eye levels constantly. You can’t just throw hard down the middle.
What I Learned
Using submarine pitchers is fun, but it takes practice. You gotta learn how their specific pitches move from that arm slot. It’s not like throwing with a normal over-the-top guy.
- Focus on control: Missing spots is death.
- Mix pitches: Don’t become predictable. Use the slider/sinker combo.
- Change speeds: Keep hitters off balance. Their fastballs aren’t overpowering.
- Location is key: Low and away, low and in. Avoid the middle and up high.
It’s definitely a different way to play, and it can really frustrate opponents who aren’t used to seeing that arm angle. Finding the best one really depends on who you pitch well with, but guys like Rogers and Cimber are usually solid places to start looking in MLB The Show 24. Just gotta get in there and try ’em out.
