Okay, so I wanted to go to the US Open at Pinehurst, and figuring out where to stay was a whole thing. I started by, you know, just Googling “places to stay near Pinehurst.” That gave me a bunch of options, but it was overwhelming!

Narrowing it Down
First, I decided on my budget. I wasn’t looking to spend a fortune, but I also didn’t want to stay in some super sketchy place miles away. I set a rough range in my head, which helped me rule out some of the fancier hotels and resorts right away.
Then, I thought about what kind of place I wanted. A hotel? A rental house? A bed and breakfast? I was going with a couple of friends, so a house seemed like the best option. More space, a kitchen, and we could split the cost.
- Checked some of popular sites.
- Looked at the maps! So important.
I used the maps feature to see exactly how far each place was from the golf course. Some of them looked close on the list, but when you zoomed in, they were actually a pretty long drive. I definitely prioritized places within walking distance, or at least a super short drive, because, parking. I imagined parking was a problem.
Making a Decision
After looking at tons of options, I narrowed it down to a few rental houses that seemed to fit my budget and location needs. I read through all the descriptions carefully, looked at the pictures (obviously), and paid close attention to the reviews. I learned a long time ago, reviews are important.
The reviews helped me weed out a couple of places that looked great in the pictures but had some red flags mentioned by previous guests (like noise issues or cleanliness problems). Finally, I found one that seemed perfect: good price, great location, and consistently positive reviews. I booked it!

It all worked out great. The house was exactly as advertised, and it was so convenient to get to and from the US Open. I would have used the same approach.
