Alright, let’s talk about this here Jimmy Connors Wilson tennis racket. Don’t know much about tennis, but I know a thing or two about things that last. This racket, they say it’s a piece of history. Like them old quilts my grandma used to make – tough and lasted forever.
Now, this Jimmy fella, he was a big deal. Folks say he was number one for years, back in the seventies. That’s a long time ago, even before my youngest boy was born. He used this Wilson racket, see? A Wilson. Heard of them. They make good stuff, I reckon. Like them good ol’ cast iron pans – you can beat ‘em, but they just keep on cookin’.
This racket, it ain’t like them fancy ones they use now. This one, some of ‘em were made of wood. Can you believe it? Wood! Like them old fence posts out back. Tough wood, though, I bet. They called it the “T2000”, they did. And some fella named Lacoste, he come up with the idea way back when. Sounds like a fancy name, Lacoste. Probably one of them city slickers.
They started makin’ this T2000 racket in ’67. That’s before most of you youngsters were even a twinkle in your daddy’s eye. And they kept makin’ it till ’84. That’s a good long run, longer than my old mule, Bess, bless her heart.
Now, I seen some folks sayin’ this racket was for them baseline fellas, the ones that stay in the back and hit the ball hard. Like whacking a rug to get the dust out, I imagine. Makes sense, I guess. This Jimmy fella, he must’ve whacked that ball pretty darn hard to be number one for so long. Probably wore out a few rackets in his time.

Some of these rackets are even signed by Jimmy Connors himself. Now that’d be something, wouldn’t it? Like having a piece of history right there in your hands. Probably worth a pretty penny, too. More than my old cow, Betsy, that’s for sure.
