Alright, let’s talk about this Kansas City Chiefs Mahomes helmet thing I worked on. It wasn’t super complicated, but it was a fun little project I got stuck into.

So, I’m a big Chiefs fan, obviously. And Mahomes, well, he’s something else, isn’t he? I kept seeing all these cool custom helmets online, but man, the prices were crazy. I figured, why not try and put something together myself? Not like, an official game helmet, just something cool to have, you know?
Getting Started
First off, I needed a base. I didn’t want to ruin a real collectible or anything. Found a pretty decent replica helmet online. Just a plain red one, nothing fancy. Seemed like a good starting point. It arrived, and I unboxed it. Looked okay, maybe a bit too shiny, but workable.
Next step was gathering the bits and pieces. This took some searching around. I needed:
- Chiefs logo decals – the arrowhead ones for the sides.
- Mahomes’ number 15 decals.
- Maybe some other small sponsor decals, just to make it look a bit more authentic, even though it’s just for show.
- Some stuff for prepping the surface, like rubbing alcohol or a gentle cleaner.
Finding decals that looked right and were the right size was honestly the trickiest part. Spent a good hour or two just browsing different sites, comparing styles.
Putting it Together
Okay, got all the stuff. Time to actually do it. First, I gave the helmet a good wipe down. Didn’t want any dust or fingerprints messing things up. Let it dry completely.

Then came the decals. Started with the main Chiefs arrowhead logos on the sides. This needed patience. You gotta peel them off carefully, line them up just right. I sort of eyeballed it, comparing it to pictures on my phone. Pressed down from the center out to avoid bubbles. Took a few tries to get the first one looking straight. The second one went a bit smoother.
Applying the number ’15’ was next. Usually goes on the back, right? Found a spot that looked centered and stuck ’em on. Same deal, slow and steady, pushing out any air bubbles.
I had a couple of smaller, kinda generic-looking sponsor decals too. Popped those on near the jawline area, similar to where they are on the real deal. Didn’t overdo it, just a couple to add a little extra detail.
The Final Look
After all the decals were on, I gave it another gentle wipe. Stood back and took a look. You know what? It didn’t look half bad! For a simple project, just sticking some decals on a basic helmet, it really captured that Mahomes Chiefs vibe.
It’s not perfect, obviously. Up close you can tell it’s a DIY job. The decals aren’t painted on, and the helmet itself isn’t game-spec or anything. But sitting on the shelf? Yeah, looks pretty cool. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon, messing around and making something Chiefs-related without breaking the bank. Definitely satisfied with how it turned out for the effort involved.
