Okay, let’s talk about Alex Pereira’s size, his walk-around weight. It’s something I’ve kinda tracked, just out of curiosity, you know?

Watching Him Over Time
So, I first started really noticing this guy back in his kickboxing days, especially when he was fighting Izzy. Even then, standing next to other middleweights, you could see he was just built different. A big frame, wide shoulders. Didn’t look like a typical guy fighting at that weight.
Then he moved over to MMA. I kept watching. You see these fighters between camps, right? They post stuff online, training pics, sometimes just living life. And man, Pereira always looked way bigger than his fight weight class, whether it was 185 or later 205.
Hearing the Numbers
You start hearing things, whispers and reports from gyms or interviews. People throwing out numbers. It wasn’t official weigh-in stuff, obviously, but the kind of weight guys carry when they’re not deep in a cut.
- Saw some posts talking about him being well over 220 pounds.
- Then other times, maybe closer to a fight but still weeks out, you’d hear maybe 230, even pushing 235 sometimes.
- It seemed pretty consistent that he lived at a much higher weight.
Putting it Together
For me, the process was like this:
First, just visually seeing the difference. Seeing him look like a natural light heavyweight or even a small heavyweight when he wasn’t cutting.

Second, connecting that visual with the numbers people were talking about. When you hear “230 pounds” and then see a picture of him looking thick, it starts to make sense.
Third, thinking about the actual cut. Going from something like 230+ pounds down to 205, or even crazier, down to 185… that’s a serious process. It really hit me how much work and discipline that must take. It’s not just training, it’s a whole science experiment on your body.
It’s pretty wild to track. You see the fighter on weigh-in day looking drained, almost skeletal sometimes. Then, 24 hours later, they step in the cage looking full and powerful again. But seeing Pereira in his ‘off-season’ or just regular training mode puts that whole weight cut thing into a different perspective. He’s naturally a big, big dude. That’s just my observation from following his journey.
