Okay, so today I decided to dive into predicting the West Ham vs. Chelsea match. I’ve been trying to get better at this whole prediction thing, so I figured, why not document the whole messy process?

Getting Started – The Data Hunt
First things first, I needed data. Lots of it. I started by pulling up recent match results for both teams. You know, wins, losses, draws, goals scored, goals conceded – the usual stuff.
I spent a good chunk of time just staring at tables of numbers. Trying to make sense of it all. It’s like, okay, West Ham beat this team, but lost to that one… and Chelsea did this… It gets confusing fast!
Looking at Head-to-Head
Then, I moved onto the head-to-head record. How have these two teams performed against each other in the past? This is where things can get interesting. Sometimes, even if a team is generally doing well, they might have a historical struggle against a specific opponent.
I built out a simple list of past games:
- Chelsea Win
- Draw
- West Ham Win
- Chelsea Win
- Draw
I can see the records show some ups and downs, wins, and draws. It’s not like one team completely dominates the other.

Checking Form and Injuries
Next up – current form. Are either of the teams on a hot streak, or have they been struggling lately? I looked at their last five matches each. Also, and this is important, I checked for injuries and suspensions. A key player being out can really change the dynamics of a match.
Trying to Find Expert Opinions (and Failing)
Okay, I admit it. I also went looking for “expert predictions.” I figured, maybe someone out there knows something I don’t, right? But honestly, most of what I found was just vague, general statements. Nothing I couldn’t have figured out myself with a bit of digging.
The Actual Prediction
After all that, I was ready to make my guess. This whole prediction thing is not an exact thing.
Based on my data finding, I’d say that both teams are capable of scoring, both have had a mixed bag of results, and the head-to-head doesn’t give a clear advantage to either *, it’s a kind of guessing.
My final prediction is West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea.

Reflecting on the Process
So, that’s it! That’s my whole prediction process, from start to finish. It’s not perfect, and I’m sure I could improve it, but it’s a start.I will continue to dig into the data and try to find some better way to predict next time.
