Alright, let’s talk about finding the strong attacks in Clash of Clans this year, 2024. It’s been a bit of a ride for me, honestly.

Started the year feeling pretty stuck. My old faithful armies just weren’t cutting it anymore, especially in clan wars. Felt like I was hitting walls, getting those embarrassing low-percentage two-stars, sometimes even failing completely. You know the feeling. It gets frustrating when you feel like you’re letting the team down.
So, I decided I needed to properly figure out what’s actually working now. What are the top guys using? What melts these new base layouts?
My First Steps: Watching and Learning
First thing I did was just watch. A lot. Spent hours looking at replays from the Legends League, checking out war attacks from good clans. Trying to see the patterns.
One thing became obvious pretty quick: Root Riders. They seemed to be everywhere. Looked almost ridiculously strong, just plowing through walls and defenses. Seemed like the easy answer.
Trying Things Out: The Messy Part
So, I cooked up a Root Rider army. Jumped into some multiplayer battles feeling pretty confident. And guess what? I got wrecked. Totally flopped the first few tries. The riders just wandered off, split up, died way too fast. It wasn’t the ‘press button, get three stars’ thing I thought it might be.

That was the first big lesson: just having the ‘strongest’ troops doesn’t mean much if you don’t know how to use them. Deployment, funneling, spell timing – all that stuff still matters, maybe even more with these new units.
I spent a ton of time in friendly challenges after that. Annoyed my clanmates constantly, asking them to put up different base styles for me to practice on. Slowly, very slowly, I started to get a feel for it.
- Figured out how to make a decent funnel so the Riders actually go into the base.
- Played around with support troops. What works best? Healers? Maybe some Wizards or Headhunters?
- Experimented with spells. Rage, Freeze, Heal – finding the right mix took trial and error.
- Realized taking out the enemy Clan Castle troops early was super important.
Finding What Works (For Me)
After all that practice, Root Rider strategies definitely became part of my toolkit. They are strong, no doubt. Especially good for smashing through certain types of compact bases.
But, they aren’t the answer to everything. Some base designs are specifically built to counter them now. Spread out bases, tricky trap placements, compartments designed to split them up. For those, I needed something else.
So, I went back to messing with air attacks too. Super Archer Blimps combined with something like LavaLoon started clicking for me again. It’s an older concept, but still powerful if you can get that blimp to the core.

Getting the blimp deep into the base, protecting it from seeking air mines, and timing the invisibility or rage spells just right? That took another round of practice. Lots of failed blimp drops, lots of Super Archers dying instantly. But when it hits just right, it hollows out the core beautifully, making the rest of the attack much easier.
So, What’s the “Strongest”?
Here’s the thing I really learned through all this: there isn’t just one strongest comp in 2024. It really depends on the base you’re hitting and what you’re comfortable executing.
For me right now, my go-to options are:
- Root Rider variations: Usually with healers and some cleanup, good for ground-friendly bases.
- Super Archer Blimp LaLo/Hogs: Better for bases with valuable cores that I think I can snipe with the blimp.
I’ve seen people do amazing things with Electro Dragons still, or Super Bowlers, or even Zap Dragons. It comes down to practice and picking the right tool for the job.
The game keeps changing, people keep building new crazy bases. So the real key is just to keep practicing, keep watching, and don’t be afraid to try stuff out, even if you fail a bunch at first. That’s how I found what works for me this year, anyway. Lots of trial and error, but we’re getting there.
