Okay, so I saw this picture of Vanessa Hudgens with this super cool neck tattoo, and I just had to try and recreate it. I’m no tattoo artist, obviously, but I figured I could at least try to get the look with some temporary stuff.

Getting Started
First, I scoured the internet for some decent close-up shots of the tattoo. It’s like, a butterfly, but also kinda abstract. I needed to get a good sense of the shape and placement.
My First Attempt
I grabbed some eyeliner I had lying around – a black liquid one with a pretty fine tip. I figured this would give me the most control. My first attempt? Total disaster! My hand was way too shaky, and the lines were all wobbly and uneven. It looked more like a toddler’s drawing than a delicate butterfly.
Experimenting with Different Tools
I didn’t give up though! I wiped it all off and tried again, this time using a slightly damp, fine-tipped paintbrush and some black eyeshadow. This was a little better. The lines were softer, which was more forgiving, but it still didn’t have that sharp, defined look.
The Winning Combination
Finally, I decided to combine the two. I lightly sketched out the basic shape with the eyeshadow and brush, creating a sort of stencil for myself. Then, I carefully went over it with the liquid eyeliner, using the eyeshadow as a guide. This was it! The eyeshadow gave me a soft outline, and the eyeliner provided the crispness I needed. I used a QTip with a bit of makeup remover to do some cleanup.
The Final Result
It wasn’t perfect, by any means. It definitely didn’t look exactly like Vanessa’s, but I was pretty happy with it! It had the same general vibe – that delicate, feminine, but kinda edgy thing going on. I rocked it for a day, and got a few compliments, which was cool.

Final Thoughts
- Practice makes perfect! Don’t expect to nail it on the first try.
- Use the right tools. Experiment to see what works best for you.
- Don’t be afraid to get creative! You can adapt designs to fit your own style.
- If all the fail, there is always the temporary tattoo for sale online.
It was a fun little experiment, and it definitely made me appreciate the skill of real tattoo artists even more!
