Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this golf thing, the Valspar Championship. It’s some big deal on the PGA Tour, whatever that is. I was curious about who’s won this thing in the past, and you won’t believe the rabbit hole I went down.
First, I had to figure out what the Valspar Championship actually was. Turns out, it’s a professional golf tournament that these top-tier golfers play in. They hold it every year at this fancy place called the Innisbrook Resort, on something called the Copperhead Course. I guess it’s in Palm Harbor. I wouldn’t know, I just play mini-golf.
So, I started digging into these past winners. They’ve got this whole history thing on the internet, with scores, how much money these guys made, and even something called FedExCup points. I don’t get the points thing, but apparently, it’s important. This Valspar, the paint company, they’re like the big cheese behind this tournament. They signed some four-year deal with the PGA, so I guess they’re pretty serious about it.
Anyway, I made a list of the past winners. It wasn’t easy, I had to comb through a bunch of web pages.
Here’s what I found, all the Valspar winners I could dig up:
- Some guy named Sam Burns, he won it twice in a row, in 2021 and 2022. Must be pretty good.
- Then there’s Paul Casey, he also won it back-to-back, in 2018 and 2019. These guys are on a roll!
- Before that, it was Adam Hadwin in 2017. Sounds like a cool name.
- Charl Schwartzel won in 2016.
- In 2015, Jordan Spieth took the prize. I think I’ve heard that name before.
- John Senden won in 2014.
- Kevin Streelman was the champ in 2013.
- And in 2012, it was Luke Donald.
- There are others too before that, but you get the idea.
It’s kinda cool to see all these names and realize they were the best of the best at this tournament. I mean, they must have played some serious golf to win. The current purse is set at $5.7 million. The prize pool is insane. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing, but it’s been a fun little project. Maybe I’ll even watch it next year, who knows?
