Alright, so I’ve been sinking a ton of hours into Valheim, just like everyone else, it seems. Building, fighting trolls, the usual stuff. But sometimes, especially when playing with others, just typing in chat felt a bit slow, or I wanted a quicker way to show something without voice chat.

I knew about the basic `/sit` command, everyone finds that one pretty quickly. But then I saw another player do this sort of ‘come here’ wave, and I was like, hold on, how’d they do that? I mashed a few keys, looked through the settings menu again, but didn’t see anything obvious listed under controls or gameplay for extra actions like that.
So, I just asked the guy directly in chat. He told me you just type commands into the chat box, similar to sitting down. Pretty straightforward, really, felt a bit silly for not thinking of it sooner. You just hit Enter to open the chat, type a forward slash `/` followed by the action word, and hit Enter again.
Trying Them Out
Naturally, I started experimenting right away. The first one I tried after `/sit` was `/wave`. Simple enough, makes your character wave. Then I found `/point`, which is super useful for pointing out resources or where we should go next without having to type it all out. It became my go-to pretty fast.
I spent a bit just messing around with different words after the slash. Some worked, some didn’t. It wasn’t like there was a huge list that popped up, more like finding hidden little interactions.
Here are the ones I remember finding and using quite a bit:

- /sit
- /wave
- /point
- /challenge (like a ‘come at me’ pose)
- /cheer
- /nonono (shakes head)
- /thumbsup
There might be others, but these were the main ones that stuck with me and actually added something to coordinating or just goofing around with friends. `/nonono` is great when someone suggests doing something incredibly stupid, like running into the Plains at night with low health.
It’s nothing groundbreaking, just simple text commands, but finding these little character actions definitely made interacting in the game feel a bit more alive. It’s quicker than typing “look over here” or “no don’t do that,” and adds a little personality. Just a neat little discovery during my playtime.
