Well, let me tell ya, this whole USF ACC thing, it’s a real head-scratcher, you know? Folks been talkin’ ’bout it left and right, and I’m here to try and make some sense of it all, the way I see it.
So, there’s this American Athletic Conference, the AAC, and these colleges, they’re all mixed up in it. Schools like USF, that’s the University of South Florida down in Tampa, and Memphis, Tulane, and even that Texas-San Antonio bunch, they were all thinkin’ ’bout jumpin’ ship.
See, there’s this other group, the Pac-12, they were lookin’ to get bigger, snatchin’ up teams left and right. Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, Fresno State – they all went over there. And then, they started lookin’ at our AAC fellas.
They offered those AAC boys a deal, tryin’ to sweet-talk ’em into joinin’ up. Said they could just play football and basketball with ’em, not the whole shebang. But somethin’ didn’t smell right, ya know?
- Memphis, they thought long and hard, but decided to stay put. Said the deal wasn’t good enough.
- Tulane, they looked at it too, but figgered they was better off stayin’ where they was.
- And USF, well, they made what folks are callin’ the “logical choice.” Stayed right where they were, in the AAC.
- That UTSA, they stayed put too.
Now, why’d they all stay? Well, from what I hear, it wasn’t just ’bout the money. It was ’bout bein’ comfortable, bein’ with folks you know. This Pac-12, it’s all the way out west, and that’s a long ways to go for a game. And who knows what kinda folks they got out there? We like our own kind here, in the AAC.
And then there’s all this talk about other conferences, like the ACC, Atlantic Coast Conference you know, and how some of them big schools, like FSU and Clemson, might be leavin’. Folks are sayin’ that if them big shots leave, maybe the ACC would want some of our AAC teams. They’re even talkin’ ’bout UConn and Oregon State joinin’ up with them! Can you believe that? All this movin’ and shakin’, it’s enough to make your head spin.
But USF, they played it smart. They stayed put, and now, they might even get to play Miami every year! That’s a good thing, seein’ as how they’re both right here in Florida. Makes sense, don’t it? No need to be flyin’ all over the country when you got good competition right here at home.
And let me tell ya, it ain’t just about the games. It’s about the money too. These colleges, they need that TV money, that sponsor money. And stayin’ in the AAC, well, maybe that’s the best way to get it. They know what they’re doin’, these college presidents. They ain’t dumb, that’s for sure.
So, what’s gonna happen next? Well, nobody really knows for sure. But one thing’s certain: USF made a choice, and they’re stickin’ to it. They’re stayin’ in the AAC, and they’re gonna make the best of it. And that’s all you can ask for, ain’t it? Just do the best you can with what you got.
And all this talk about conferences and who’s goin’ where, it’s just a bunch of fuss if you ask me. At the end of the day, it’s just a bunch of young fellas playin’ ball. And that’s what really matters, ain’t it? The game itself. Not all this fancy talk and big money deals.
USF, they made their bed, and now they gotta lie in it. But I reckon they’ll be just fine. They got good players, good coaches, and good fans. And that’s all you need, really. The rest is just noise.
So, there you have it. That’s my take on this whole USF AAC situation. It ain’t pretty, and it ain’t always easy to understand, but that’s just the way things are in this world. You gotta roll with the punches, and you gotta make the best of what you got. And that’s what USF is doin’, and I wish ’em all the best.
