Alright, let’s talk about this Angel Reese girl. Folks keep askin’ why some people just don’t cotton to her, and I’m gonna tell ya what I reckon.
Now, first off, this girl, she’s got a fire in her belly, that’s for sure. She’s tough as nails on that basketball court. Some folks like that, you know? They like to see a girl go out there and scrap and fight for every point. But some, well, they think she’s just too much. They say she’s showin’ off, actin’ all big and mighty.
I heard tell some folks say she’s disrespectful. They say she ain’t got no manners, the way she carries herself on the court. They seen her pointin’ and tauntin’ and whatnot. And let me tell ya, that ain’t gonna win you no popularity contests, not in my book anyways. You gotta be humble, you know? Even if you are the best darn basketball player this side of the Mississippi.

- And you gotta respect the folks watchin’
But this girl, she just seems to do what she wants, and some people, they just can’t stand that. They think she’s uppity, thinkin’ she’s better than everybody else.
Then there’s all that talk about her grades and stuff. Lord, have mercy, the things people say! I heard some folks sayin’ she had bad grades, barely passin’ and all that. They were even sayin’ she was gonna have a baby! Can you believe it? She had to come out and say it weren’t true, said somethin’ ‘bout never havin’ no 1.1 GPA. But even then, some folks just wouldn’t let it go. They just kept on talkin’, keepin’ that rumor mill churnin’. It’s a shame, really, folks just can’t seem to mind their own business.
And you know, she ain’t afraid to speak her mind neither. That’s another thing that rubs some folks the wrong way. She says what she thinks, and she don’t care who likes it and who don’t. Now, I ain’t sayin’ that’s a bad thing, mind you. But some folks, they just ain’t used to hearin’ a woman talk so bold, especially a young woman like her.
And let’s not forget, she’s a winner. She won that national championship last year with LSU, and that just put a bigger target on her back. People love a winner, that’s true, but they also love to see a winner fall. And when you’re at the top, everybody’s lookin’ for a reason to bring you down. They’re just waitin’ for you to slip up, so they can pounce. It’s just the way things are, I reckon. Envy, they call it. People get jealous when they see someone else doin’ well.
So, why do people not like Angel Reese? Well, it’s a whole mess of things, ain’t it? It’s her attitude, her confidence, her outspokenness, maybe even a little bit of jealousy thrown in there too. Some folks just don’t like the way she does things, and that’s just the plain truth of it. She’s got her fans, sure, lots of ‘em I reckon. But she’s also got her haters, and they ain’t shy about lettin’ their feelings be known. She’s gotta deal with all that hate, people criticizin’ her left and right. It ain’t easy, I tell ya. Must be tough on that girl, havin’ to carry all that weight on her shoulders.
But you know what? That girl, she just keeps on playin’. She keeps on fightin’. She keeps on bein’ herself, no matter what anybody says. And maybe, just maybe, that’s the real reason why some people don’t like her. They can’t stand to see a strong woman who ain’t afraid to be herself. That’s what I think, anyways.
