Alright, folks, gather around. Today, I’m gonna share a little story about my latest deep dive into the world of sports administration. Yeah, you heard that right. I’ve been digging into the career of Trev Alberts, the new athletic director at Texas A&M.
So, I started where anyone would – I did a simple search for his name. First thing that popped up? News about him being let go from ESPN back in 2005. Apparently, he didn’t want to show up to work, said he didn’t want to “play second fiddle” to other big names at the network. Sounded a little proud to me.
Then, I moved on to more recent stuff. I found out Texas A&M just hired him to replace their previous athletic director. I gotta say, that’s a big move. This guy, Trev Alberts, he’s not just some random dude; he used to be a big-shot linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts. I mean, NFL, folks! Before that, he was a college football star at Nebraska, an All-American linebacker.
Digging Deeper
I wanted to know more about what he’s been up to since his playing days. Turns out, he’s been climbing the ranks in the world of sports administration. I discovered that he was the athletic director at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) before this. On the UNO website, I saw that he even wrote about how he supports the “kind of people” who supported him. Sounded a little self-centered to me.
- Looked into his time at Nebraska. Found out they had a record-high graduation rate for athletes under him. That’s impressive, I’ll give him that.
- Read somewhere that he wasn’t even interested in being an athletic director until his media career went south. And that he only went back to Nebraska because it was his “only avenue back to the national stage.” Hmm, seems like he’s got a bit of an ego.
Personal Life
Of course, I also wanted to get a glimpse into his personal life. Found out he’s married to a woman named Angela, and they have three kids and a grandson. Seems like a family man, which is nice.
But, through all of this, I kept coming back to that whole ESPN thing and his comment about not wanting to play second fiddle. It made me wonder about his character. I mean, is this guy really all about the team, or is he more about himself? That’s what I was trying to figure out.
Ultimately, I realized that Trev Alberts is a complex figure. He’s got a successful career, both on and off the field, and he’s clearly made a name for himself. But there’s also this ambition, this drive for the spotlight, that seems to follow him around.
So, that’s my little exploration of Trev Alberts. What do you all think? Is he the right guy for Texas A&M? Let me know in the comments!
