Alright, so I’ve been playing a lot of Emz lately, trying to figure out what setup actually works best, you know? Not just what some guide says, but what feels right when you’re actually in a match.

Gadget Trials
First thing I messed with were the Gadgets. I started with Friendzoner. It pushes people back, right? Seemed useful for keeping assassins off me. And yeah, sometimes it saved my skin. But a lot of the time, I’d push someone back, and they’d just come right back at me, or I’d push them out of my main attack’s sweet spot. Felt a bit clumsy, honestly.
So then I swapped over to Acid Spray. This one slows enemies down and lets your next shot go through walls. Now this felt different. Being able to slow down a whole group pushing towards the objective, or finishing off someone hiding behind a wall? That felt way more impactful in most games I played. It gave me more control, felt less reactive.
Star Power Experiments
Next up, Star Powers. I ran Bad Karma for a while. Extra damage the longer they stand in the spray. Sounds great on paper. And yeah, against slow tanks or people caught out, it definitely melts them faster. But I found that good players don’t just stand there, they move in and out. The extra damage wasn’t always hitting its full potential.
Then I tried Hype. Healing from the super? Man, this was a game-changer for me. Emz is kinda squishy, right? Getting that bit of healing while controlling a big area with the super often meant I survived fights I definitely would have lost otherwise. It just made me feel way tankier, letting me hold my ground more aggressively. For my playstyle, staying alive longer felt more valuable than the conditional extra damage.
Gears and Putting it Together
With Gears, I played around a bit.

- Damage Gear: Always nice when you’re low health, helps finish people off.
- Speed Gear: Useful on bushy maps to get into position or run away.
- Shield Gear: Extra health is always welcome.
- Gadget Charge Gear: Getting more Acid Sprays? Yes please.
So, after all this fiddling around, here’s what I landed on most of the time:
I went with Acid Spray for the gadget. The utility of slowing and hitting through walls just felt more consistently useful in the matches I was playing.
For the Star Power, Hype became my go-to. That healing during the super is just too good for survivability, which I think is super important for Emz.
And for Gears, I usually run Gadget Charge and Damage. More slows and more finishing power feels like a solid combo with the rest of the kit. Sometimes I swap Damage for Shield if I feel extra squishy on a particular map.
So yeah, that’s the build I’ve settled into after trying stuff out myself. Acid Spray, Hype, and usually Gadget Charge + Damage Gears. It just feels the most consistent and effective for how I play her. Might not be the “meta” for everyone, but it’s what’s working for me right now after actually playing the games.
