Okay, so, “Where do speed live?” I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. It all started a few weeks ago when I was stuck in traffic, again. You know how it is, inching along, and I started wondering, “What if I could just… go faster? Not just in my car, but like, in everything?”
So I did what any normal person would do: I started experimenting. First, I tried waking up earlier. Figured I’d get a head start on the day, you know? It was rough. I’m not a morning person, never have been. But I stuck with it. Got up at 5 AM every day for a week. Result? I was just tired, and I definitely didn’t find the speed I was seeking.
Next, I focused on my computer. I thought, “Maybe speed lives in my machine.” I cleaned up all the files, uninstalled programs I didn’t need, even upgraded the RAM. Did my computer run faster? Sure, a little. But was I experiencing the kind of speed I was dreaming about? Nope.
- Woke up at 5 AM – just made me tired.
- Cleaned up computer – faster, but not fast enough.
- Tried to learn speed reading – got a headache.
Then I thought, “Maybe it’s about how I process information.” So I tried speed reading. Yeah, I know, sounds crazy. But I downloaded one of those apps, practiced every day. You know what I got? A headache. And I still couldn’t read any faster. The speed, it seemed, was not living in my eyeballs.
I even tried changing my diet. Ate “brain foods” like blueberries and fish. Drank tons of water. Felt healthier, maybe, but faster? No. At this point, I was starting to get a bit discouraged. Was this whole “speed” thing just a dumb idea?
But then, I had a breakthrough. I realized I was looking for speed in the wrong places. It wasn’t about external things, it was about my mindset. I started focusing on doing one thing at a time, really concentrating on it, and finishing it before moving on to the next thing.
The Mindset Shift
Sounds simple, right? But it made a huge difference. When I worked on a single task without getting distracted, I finished it faster, and with better quality. It was like I had found a hidden gear I didn’t know I had. My speed wasn’t about rushing, it was about focus.
So, where does speed live? It lives in your mind, in your ability to focus, to eliminate distractions, and to commit to the task at hand. It’s not about going faster, it’s about being more present. And that’s something I’m still working on, but I’m definitely feeling faster already.
