Alright folks, let me tell you about my “turtleneck rock” adventure. It was a bit of a wild ride, but hey, that’s what makes it fun, right?

So, it all started with this idea. I saw some cool turtleneck designs online, and I thought, “I can totally rock that!” I grabbed some old fabric I had lying around – a kinda stretchy knit thing. Figured it’d be perfect.
First thing I did was measure my neck. You know, gotta make sure it actually fits over my head! Then I kinda eyeballed the rest. Yeah, I know, not the most professional approach, but who needs a pattern when you’ve got sheer determination?
Next up, cutting the fabric. I laid it out on the floor (because who has a proper cutting table?), and just went for it with my trusty scissors. I cut out a big rectangle for the body and a smaller, longer rectangle for the neck. At this point, it looked more like a weird flag than a turtleneck.
Sewing time! I fired up my old sewing machine – it’s seen better days, but it gets the job done. I started by sewing the two short ends of the neck rectangle together to make a loop. Then, I attached that loop to the top of the body rectangle. This was probably the trickiest part, making sure it was even and not all wonky.
After that, I sewed the sides of the body rectangle together, leaving armholes, of course. I mean, I wanted to be able to move my arms. I tried it on at this point, and it was… interesting. Definitely turtleneck-ish, but also kinda sack-like.

So, I decided to add some shape. I took it back to the machine and sewed in some darts at the sides to make it a bit more fitted. That helped a lot! It actually started to look like a real piece of clothing.
Finally, I hemmed the bottom edge and the armholes. Nothing fancy, just a simple rolled hem. And then… voila! My turtleneck rock was born!
Was it perfect? Nah. There were definitely some wonky seams and uneven hems. But did I wear it? You bet I did! It was comfy, it was unique, and it was all mine. Plus, it was a great conversation starter. People were always asking me where I got it, and I could proudly say, “I made it!”
Honestly, it was a fun little project. It reminded me that you don’t need to be a pro to create something cool. Just grab some fabric, a pair of scissors, and a whole lotta courage, and you might just surprise yourself. Go on, give it a try! You might just rock a turtleneck of your own.
