So, I was digging into this whole TCU Horned Frog mascot thing, right? I gotta say, it’s more interesting than I thought it would be.
First, I started by just poking around online. I read that TCU students were messing around with different mascot costumes way back in 1949. I guess they were trying out different looks.
Then, I found out that in 1979, they really started to change things up with the Horned Frog. They changed it many times. I guess that since 1979, the TCU Horned Frog mascot has been through a bunch of different looks. I think that many people were involved in this.
So, I kept digging. It looks like a lot of students and maybe some staff were involved in these changes. They were probably brainstorming ideas, sketching stuff out, and maybe even sewing new costumes. Imagine that, a bunch of college kids trying to figure out the best way to represent their school with a horned frog.
I also tried to find some old pictures. You know, to see what the mascot used to look like. It took some time and it was kind of a pain, but I managed to find a few. They’re pretty interesting. The costumes weren’t as polished back then. It shows how much they improved it over the years.
After that, I decided to reach out to the university. I sent an email, just a simple one, asking if they had any more info or maybe some old photos they could share. I didn’t get a response. Maybe I need to follow up again later.

Old photos show a big difference in the quality of the costumes compared to today.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve found out so far about the TCU Horned Frog mascot. It’s been a fun little project. I might keep looking into it when I have more time. Who knows what other cool stuff I might find?
