Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at crosswords lately. It’s tough, but I’m not giving up! Today, I worked on this puzzle, and there was this clue: “quarry.” I was stumped for a while, but I kept at it.
First, I tried to think of all the words I know that are related to “quarry.” I thought of words like “prey,” “target,” and “hunt.” But none of those seemed to fit the right number of letters.
Brainstorming
I decided to brainstorm some more.
- I looked up the definition of “quarry” to make sure I really understood what it meant. Turns out, it can be a place where stone is dug up, or it can be an animal that’s being hunted.
- I tried to think of other words that mean the same thing as “quarry” like the animal.
- I even tried thinking about famous quarries or historical events involving them. Nothing.
Breaking Down Clues
Then, I started looking at the other clues around it, hoping they would give me some hints. Sometimes, the answers to nearby clues can give you some of the letters you need. This helped a little, but I still couldn’t get it.
Using Resources
Next, I tried using a thesaurus. I figured maybe there was a synonym for “quarry” that I hadn’t thought of. I found a few options, but they didn’t quite fit either. I even checked a crossword solver website, and it gave me a bunch of possible answers. Some of them were “stonepit”, “prey,” “target.”
Trying to Fit In
I tried each of the words in that spot of the puzzle, but I still couldn’t get the word to fit all of the clues. Then, I thought about the other meaning of quarry, like the stone place. So I tried again, and the word “stonepit” fit!
Finally, I remembered that crossword puzzles often use tricks and wordplay. So, I started thinking about the clue in a more creative way. I realized that “quarry” could also refer to the act of searching for something. And then it hit me! The answer was probably “stonepit” or “prey”. I tried both of them, and “stonepit” fit perfectly! I felt so good to finally solve it.
This whole experience taught me to be patient and persistent when solving crosswords. It’s okay to get stuck, and it’s okay to use resources like a thesaurus or even a crossword solver website. And sometimes, you just need to think outside the box. Keep at it, and don’t give up, and you will finally get it.
