Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my putting lately, and I decided to give the Spider SR Putter a shot. I’d heard some buzz about it, and honestly, my putting has been pretty shaky, so I figured, why not?

Getting Started
First thing I did was hit up the local golf shop. I wanted to actually hold the thing and get a feel for it. They had a few different Spider models, but the SR just looked…clean. I liked the white alignment line on top, it seemed like it would help me line things up better.
Practice Time
I took it straight to the practice green. No messing around. First few putts? Felt weird. The head is definitely heavier than my old blade putter. It took some getting used to, that’s for sure. I spent a good hour just rolling putts from different distances, trying to get a feel for the weight and how the ball came off the face.
- Short Putts: Initially, I was blowing them past the hole. The heavier head just sent the ball further than I was used to. But after a while, I started to get the hang of it. I shortened my stroke a bit, and things started to smooth out.
- Mid-Range:This is where I really started to see a difference. The alignment aid, that white line, really did seem to help. I felt more confident lining up my putts, and I was definitely more consistent.
- Long Putts:Lag putting was the biggest adjustment. Judging the distance took some serious practice. I had to really focus on controlling the speed, but after numerous * weight of the putter actually helped once I got used to it. It felt like it swung more smoothly on those longer putts.
On the Course
After a few practice sessions, I decided to take it out on the course. First round, mixed results, I wasn’t totally comfortable with the speed control, and I left some critical putts short, but that was my fault to adjust my putting based on the different feeling.
But, a few rounds in, and I’m starting to really like it, I am much more confident about the putting and SR putter really helped it. The alignment is great, and I’m starting to get a much better feel for the distance control.
Overall Feeling
It’s not a magic wand, but it’s definitely an improvement over my old putter, the practice is the key, the more I use it, the better I get, I still need to practice, of course, but I think I found a new friend for me.
