Okay, so today I decided to tackle the “Marine Leader” clue from the NYT Crossword. Here’s how it went down:

First, I grabbed my phone and opened the NYT Crossword app. I usually do these in the morning, but today was a bit hectic, so it was a lunchtime solve for me.
I scanned the grid, looking for somewhere to get a foothold. You know, find those easy fill-in-the-blanks to get the ball rolling. The “Marine Leader” clue was staring right at me – 5 letters. Hmm.
My brain immediately went to military ranks. Sergeant? Nope, too long. Major? Nope. Then it hit me: what about the head of the Marines?
- I thought about the basic ranks, the ones everyone knows.
- Then I considered if it might be some abbreviation I didn’t know.
- Finally, I remembered that, just as the title states, leader refers to the head honcho.
I typed in “MAJOR” and it fit!, It worked! That was fast, but hey, I’ll take it. Sometimes they’re gimmes, and sometimes they make you tear your hair out. This one was the former, thankfully.
It will felt good to get that one quickly. On to the next clue!
