Alright, so today I’m gonna walk you through how I figured out Shohei Ohtani’s height. It sounds simple, right? Google it! But I wanted to do it… my way. Plus, you know, maybe learn a thing or two along the way.

First things first, I started with the obvious: Google. Typed in “how tall is Shohei Ohtani”. Got the usual answer – 6’4″. Okay, cool. But where’s the fun in stopping there? I wanted proof. Like, visual confirmation, ya know?
So, next up, I hit up YouTube. Started searching for videos of Ohtani standing next to other people whose height I kinda knew. Like, his teammates, or other famous baseball players. This took a while, scrolling through highlights and interviews.
Found a few videos where he was standing next to Mike Trout. Trout’s listed at 6’2″. Looked at the video, paused it at a point where they were standing pretty straight, side-by-side. Then, I did some very scientific eyeballing. Ohtani definitely looked taller. Like, a solid couple of inches, maybe even three. Seemed to line up with the 6’4″ claim.
But eyeballing wasn’t good enough. I wanted something a little more concrete. So, I tried to find pictures where he was next to something with a known height. Like a doorway, or a fence. Struck out there. Everything was at weird angles, or too far away.
Then, it hit me: baseball cards! I remembered seeing some cards where they show the player’s height. Went to eBay, searched for Shohei Ohtani baseball cards. Scrolled through a bunch of listings until I found one with his bio info on the back. BAM! 6’4″ listed right there in black and white.

Okay, still not completely satisfied. I wanted something independent. That’s when I remembered those player profiles on the MLB website. Headed over there, searched for Ohtani’s profile. Low and behold, right there under his picture, it said: Height: 6’4″.
So, what did I learn?
- Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one.
- Even if you know the answer, it’s fun to try and verify it yourself.
- Eyeballing is a valid, if not entirely accurate, method.
- Baseball cards are good for more than just collecting.
In the end, the mystery of Shohei Ohtani’s height wasn’t really a mystery at all. But I had fun digging around. And hey, now I know for sure that he’s a freakin’ giant! Maybe next time I’ll try to figure out his wingspan…
