So, I gotta talk about this kettlebell thing I started doing. Found some stuff from a guy, Tanner Recchio. Wasn’t looking for anything complicated, honestly.

See, I went through that phase, you know? Got all hyped up, bought one of those fancy exercise bikes with the screen. Cost a fortune. Used it maybe five times? Then it just became a very expensive clothes rack in the corner of the room. Felt like a real idiot looking at it gather dust.
Getting Started with Basics
I was complaining about it to a buddy, how I wasted all that cash and still felt like a slob. He just said, “Man, just get a kettlebell.” Sounded too simple, right? But I was fed up. So, I picked up a medium-weight one, nothing crazy. Didn’t know where to start, just typed “simple kettlebell workout” into the search bar.
Ended up watching a few videos, Tanner Recchio’s name popped up. Liked his approach. No nonsense. Just focusing on doing a few moves right, not a million different things. He talked a lot about the basics, like the swing. Looked easy enough on video.
Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy at first.
- First time I tried the swing? Felt awkward as hell.
- Pretty sure I was just lifting it with my arms, which I later learned was totally wrong.
- My back felt a bit iffy, thought I’d messed something up.
Sticking With It
Almost gave up right there. Thought, “Here we go again, another thing that doesn’t work for me.” But I remembered that useless bike sitting there judging me. Nah. I decided to really slow down. Watched Recchio’s instruction again, like, really watched it. Focused on the hip hinge he kept talking about. Practiced that movement without the bell first. Felt silly doing it, just humping the air in my living room, but whatever.

Then I picked up the bell again. Focused only on that hip snap. Didn’t worry about how high the bell went. Just snap the hips, let the bell float. Snap. Float. Snap. Float. Did that for like 10 minutes, maybe three times a week. That was it.
Honestly, reminded me of when I first tried learning guitar. Spent weeks just trying to get one chord right, fingers hurtin’, soundin’ awful. But you gotta push through that initial cruddy phase. Same thing here.
Where I’m At Now
It’s been a few months now. Still just doing the simple stuff. Mostly swings, sometimes I try a goblet squat or a press. Haven’t bought any more gear. That fancy bike? Sold it online, got maybe half my money back. Good riddance.
Don’t look like a fitness model or anything. Wasn’t the goal. But I feel stronger, definitely. My back feels better than it has in ages, probably because I’m actually using my legs and hips like Recchio teaches, not straining my lower back. It’s simple. It works. Fits into my day without needing a whole production. That’s really all I was after.
