Okay, so yesterday I was messing around trying to figure out how Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler approach their game. I wasn’t trying to become them overnight, but I wanted to see if I could snag some things to improve my own golf.

First thing I did was dig around online, watching videos of them swinging, practicing, and even just talking about their game. I focused on their pre-shot routines, how they addressed the ball, and what they seemed to be thinking about before hitting. Man, they are dialed in!
Warm-up: I started with a really basic warm-up, just stretching my arms, legs, and back. I didn’t want to pull anything! Then, I grabbed my wedges and started with some short chips, focusing on feel and contact. I tried to mimic Rickie’s smooth, almost effortless swing.
Swing thoughts: This is where it got interesting. I remembered seeing Jordan talk about keeping his left arm straight through impact (I’m right-handed). I tried focusing on that during my full swing. It felt weird at first, almost like I was restricting my swing, but after a few shots, I started to feel more power and consistency.
- Driver: I usually struggle with slicing my driver. So, I watched some videos of Jordan’s driver swing. He’s got that slight draw going on. I tried to copy his grip and takeaway, really focusing on rotating my hips through the swing. And you know what? A few of my drives actually went straight! Maybe I was onto something.
- Putting: Now, putting is where the real magic happens, right? I watched Rickie’s putting routine – the way he lines up the ball, the little waggle he does. I tried to incorporate that into my own game. I wasn’t draining everything, but I felt more confident over the ball.
Course Practice: I went to the local par 3 course. Tried to implement the things i had learned. The biggest thing I noticed was how much more focused I was on each shot. I wasn’t just mindlessly swinging; I was thinking about my alignment, my swing path, and my target. It was tiring, but it was also rewarding.
What I learned:
I’m not gonna lie; I didn’t suddenly become a scratch golfer. But I did pick up a few things:

- Focus: These guys are incredibly focused. It’s not just about talent; it’s about mental discipline.
- Small changes: Even small adjustments to your swing or routine can make a big difference.
- Practice: Duh, right? But seriously, you can’t just watch videos; you gotta get out there and put in the work.
Anyway, that was my little Jordan Spieth/Rickie Fowler experiment. It was fun, and I learned a few things. Now, back to the grind!
