Okay, so I’ve been grinding in Destiny 2 lately, and let me tell you, the struggle for that perfect Retrofit Escapade roll has been real. I heard a lot of chatter online about how this machine gun was supposedly “bad” for DPS and how rocket launchers were always the better option. But I was determined to give it a shot and see for myself. Also I just want to make my own build to play with my friends.
First thing I did was jump into some activities, hoping to get a drop. It took a while, honestly. I was starting to think the gun was a myth. Farmed a bunch of different activities, strikes, nightfalls, you name it. Finally, after what felt like forever, it dropped. Just a basic roll, nothing special, but it was a start.
Next, I started experimenting with different perks. I read through the descriptions, looked at what other players were using, and just tried out a bunch of combinations. Some were okay, some were terrible. I realized that the “bad DPS” talk might have some truth to it, but I was having fun figuring it all out. I did a lot of switching things around in the vault and my inventory, a lot of back and forth. I think I spent like five hours just trying out different combos in one sitting, it was pretty nuts.
My Experiments
I kept testing different setups, trying to find something that felt good and did decent damage. Here are a few things I tried:
- Fourth Time’s the Charm + Target Lock: This one was recommended a lot. Sounded good on paper, but I never really got the hang of it.
- Feeding Frenzy + Rampage: Reloading fast and doing more damage sounded cool, but it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be.
- Field Prep + Vorpal Weapon: This was another one that people liked, but it just didn’t feel right for me.
After a ton of trial and error, I finally landed on a roll that I really like. It’s probably not what most people would consider the “god roll,” but it works for me. I ended up with:
- Arrowhead Brake
- Flared Magwell
- Fourth Time’s the Charm
- Target Lock
I know, I know, I said I didn’t really like Fourth Time’s the Charm + Target Lock earlier. But for some reason, it just clicked with this particular roll. Maybe it’s the combination of the barrel and magazine perks, or maybe I just got better at using it. Either way, I was finally able to consistently hit crits and keep Target Lock active.
With this setup, I was actually able to put out some respectable damage. It’s not going to replace my rocket launcher for boss DPS or anything, but it’s definitely fun to use, especially when messing around with my buddies in lower-level activities. It’s become my go-to weapon when I just want to chill and shred some ads. Also, I found that it was great for clearing out waves of enemies in public events.
The whole process was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I’m glad I stuck with it. I learned a lot about the gun, and about what kind of perks I like in general. Plus, it’s always satisfying to find a weapon that feels good to use, even if it’s not considered “meta.” So, if you’re thinking about trying to get a good Retrofit Escapade, go for it! Don’t let the haters discourage you. Just be prepared for a bit of a grind, and be open to experimenting with different rolls until you find what works best for you. Happy hunting, Guardians!
