Alright, so I decided to share what I did the other day. The plan was simple: play some football. Just get out there and run around a bit.

But it turned out a bit more intense than just a casual kickabout. Maybe that’s where the ‘wham’ part comes in, looking back.
Getting Started
Got together with a few guys I know. Found a local pitch, nothing fancy. We just wanted to play. We picked teams, pretty rough and ready. No proper kits or anything, just shirts and skins.
The first few minutes were okay, just getting a feel for the ball again. Passing it around. Then things started heating up.
The ‘Wham’ Moments
Someone went for a tackle, really slid in. Missed the ball, took the man down. Not dirty, just clumsy and full of energy. Everyone shouted. That kind of set the tone. It became a really physical game.
I got the ball near the side. Tried to run past this one defender. He wasn’t having it. Just barged right into me. WHAM! Shoulder to shoulder. Knocked me off balance. I didn’t fall, but definitely felt it. He just grinned, I grinned back. That’s football sometimes, isn’t it?
- Lots of hard running.
- Tackles flying in (mostly fair!).
- People shouting, encouraging, complaining.
- Real effort from everyone.
There were a few more moments like that. A hard shot hitting the post with a loud clang. Two players jumping for a header and clashing. Just pure effort and impact. Proper ‘wham’ football, if you want to call it that.
Winding Down
We played for maybe an hour and a half. By the end, everyone was exhausted. Sweating buckets. A few bumps and bruises appearing.
I remember just lying on the grass afterwards for a bit. Completely spent. My legs felt like jelly. Had a nice scrape on my knee and my shoulder was definitely sore from that barge.
But you know what? It felt good. Really good. Getting out there, pushing yourself, having those ‘wham’ moments. It shakes things up. Better than sitting on the sofa, anyway. Clears your head. Sometimes you just need that physical release.
