Okay, so today I decided to tackle a beast of a crossword puzzle. The clue that really caught my eye was “prepared to fight goliath.” I mean, who doesn’t love a good David and Goliath story, right?
First, I stared at the blank spaces for a good while, my brain just kinda… blank. Nothing. Zilch. I even tried humming the “Rocky” theme song, thinking it might inspire some fighting spirit. Didn’t work.
Then, I started throwing out random words that had anything to do with fighting or being prepared. Let’s see, there was:
- ARMED
- READY
- POISED
- BRACED
and a bunch of other stuff that didn’t fit the letter count.
I grabbed my phone and did a quick search for “David and Goliath” synonyms, just to see if anything clicked. Scrolled through a few articles, mostly about the biblical story, and then…BAM!
I remembered reading somewhere, that David was armed with a sling. I mean, it’s not exactly “prepared” in the traditional sense, but it’s how he was, well, equipped for the fight, and bingo. I filled those empty spaces of “ARMED”.
It wasn’t some super strategic, intellectual breakthrough, it was literaly what David was, to fight the giant. It fit perfectly!
