Alright, let’s talk about my experience trying to figure out the MMR system in Predecessor on PS5. It’s been a wild ride, lemme tell ya.

So, I jumped into Predecessor on the PS5 pretty hyped, right? Heard it was a decent MOBA alternative and I was itching to climb the ranked ladder. But straight away, I was like, “Okay, how does this MMR thing actually WORK?” It’s kinda vague in the game itself, ya know?
First thing I did, like any sensible person, was Google it. Scoured the forums, Reddit, all that jazz. Got the gist that everyone starts at a similar baseline MMR, and wins and losses adjust it to find you fairer matches. Seems standard MOBA stuff, Skill Based Matchmaking, the whole nine yards.
The Grind Begins
- Initial Placements: My first few games were a total crapshoot. I was getting matched with people who clearly knew what they were doing, and then others who seemed like they were brand new. My MMR was all over the place. I was basically calibrating. Won some, lost some, felt totally random.
- Victory Points (VP) are Key: Okay, after reading some more, I figured out the VP system is pretty important. You rack ’em up with wins in Ranked, and lose ’em when you get stomped. Enough VP, you climb the ranks. Makes sense.
- Finding My Hero: I spent a good chunk of time figuring out which hero actually clicked with me. Tried a bunch of different roles, different builds. Settled on a couple that I felt really comfortable with and could consistently contribute with. That made a HUGE difference.
Hitting a Wall (and Breaking Through)
I hit a point where I was just bouncing back and forth, winning some, losing some, my VP basically stagnant. It was frustrating as hell. I started to really analyze my games. I watched replays (thank god for replays!), looked at my stats, tried to figure out where I was messing up.

What I realized? I wasn’t warding enough. Seriously. I was so focused on farming and ganking that I was neglecting vision control. I started prioritizing ward placement, paying attention to the minimap, and communicating with my team about enemy movements. Boom! Suddenly, I started winning more consistently.
Communication is King (Even on PS5)
Look, I know it’s tough communicating in a MOBA on a console, but even just using the quick chat options effectively makes a difference. Calling out missing enemies, requesting ganks, coordinating objectives… it all adds up. And if you can get a friend or two to queue with you? Even better.
MMR is Still a Mystery (Sort Of)
Even now, after playing a bunch, I still don’t know the exact numbers behind the MMR system. It’s a hidden stat, and honestly, that’s probably for the best. If I knew exactly how much MMR I was gaining or losing per game, I’d probably obsess over it way too much.

The Takeaway
Focus on improving your gameplay, learning the maps, understanding your hero, and communicating with your team. The MMR will take care of itself. Don’t get too hung up on the numbers. Just play to win, and have fun (as much as you can in a competitive MOBA, anyway!). And ward, for the love of god, ward!
