Alright, folks, today we’re talkin’ about somethin’ called a “HM slave” in the world of Pokémon White. Now don’t get all fancy on me, it’s just a fancy term for a Pokémon that you use to help ya get through them pesky HMs, or Hidden Machines. These moves are important in the game, but you don’t always wanna waste your good Pokémon learnin’ them, right? So, you get yourself a nice HM slave that don’t mind doin’ the dirty work while your main team goes off to fight the real battles.
Now, I reckon the first thing you gotta know is that not all HMs are the same. Some are needed more than others, and some you’ll hardly ever use, but it don’t hurt to have a Pokémon on hand just in case. The main HMs you’ll be needin’ are stuff like Cut, Surf, Strength, Flash, and so on. Now, we ain’t gonna go too deep into the technical stuff, but if you’re playin’ Pokémon White, there are certain ones you really should think about, and a good HM slave will take care of ‘em for ya.
One of the best HM slaves in the game, in my humble opinion, is Linoone. This little critter is real handy, and it’s easy to catch too. It learns a good handful of HMs, though it can’t do ‘em all. Linoone’s got Cut, Strength, and Surf covered, and that’s a lot of the important ones you’ll need. Now, you won’t be usin’ it in battle much, but it sure gets the job done when you need it to help you with them HMs. I’ve used it myself, and I gotta say, it’s a solid choice.
Now, I know some of ya might be thinkin’, “What about Fly?” Well, here’s the thing, you don’t always need Fly to get through the game, not like you did in the old days. You can still get around just fine without it, so don’t stress too much about that one. But if you do want it, there are other Pokémon that can learn Fly too. Rufflet, for instance, is a good option if you need Cut, Fly, and Strength covered. It’s got a lot of them HMs in its arsenal, and it can do a bit of fightin’ too, unlike poor Linoone.
If you’re lookin’ for a more water-based option for them Surf and Waterfall HMs, you can’t go wrong with the likes of Oshawott, Panpour, or even Alomomola. These little water critters can cover the water HMs for ya, and they’re pretty good for battlin’ too, which is nice. I’ve seen folks use ‘em for their teams and their HMs, and it works just fine. Plus, they look kinda nice swimmin’ around in the water, don’t they?
Now, I gotta tell ya, Pokémon Black and White did things a bit different when it comes to HMs. They made it so you don’t need a full team of HM slaves like you did in some of the older games. You don’t need a Cut slave all the time, ‘cause there ain’t many trees to cut in this game, and Strength is only needed in a few places. So, while you might be used to fillin’ up your team with these poor Pokémon that don’t get to fight much, this time around, you don’t gotta do it as much. Still, it never hurts to have a backup plan!
Another thing to think about is that you don’t have to permanently teach an HM move to your main team. If you don’t wanna keep Cut, Flash, or Strength on your Pokémon forever, you can always visit the Move Deleter NPC. That’ll let you erase them HMs when you don’t need ‘em no more. Real handy if you don’t want to ruin your team just ‘cause you needed to use Strength for a bit.
But let’s not forget, there’s still some spots in the game where them HMs come in handy. Like, you might need Cut early on to get through a few areas, and Strength will help you push boulders and such. You’ll also need Surf to cross some water and to get to places you can’t get to otherwise. And if you’re tryin’ to dive underwater, well, you’ll need Dive too. So, while you don’t need a whole bunch of HM slaves, it still don’t hurt to have ‘em around.
In the end, it all comes down to what works best for you and your team. Whether you use Linoone, Rufflet, or one of them water-type Pokémon, just make sure you’ve got what you need to get through the game. The good thing is, unlike the old days, you ain’t stuck with a bunch of Pokémon just to help with them moves. It’s a little easier now, and that’s somethin’ we can all be thankful for.
So there ya go! That’s what I think about HM slaves in Pokémon White. Don’t overthink it, just get yourself a good one and keep on playin’! It’s all about havin’ fun and enjoyin’ the game.
