Okay, so I decided to try and get some decent bird pictures in Genshin Impact the other day. Seemed easy enough, right? Wrong. So, so wrong.

First off, these birds are jumpier than a cat on a hot tin roof. You take like, three steps towards them, and poof, they’re gone. Just a puff of feathers. I spent a good chunk of time just running around Mondstadt bridge, trying to sneak up on those pigeons Timmie is always feeding. Total failure. Every single time.
I tried different spots. Liyue Harbor has some nice cranes, but same problem. Get anywhere near, and they just fly off. Started getting pretty annoyed, not gonna lie. It felt like the game was actively messing with me.
Figuring Out a Plan
So, I had to stop and think. Running straight at them wasn’t working. Sneaking wasn’t working. What else was there?
I remembered some characters have weird passive talents. Scrolled through my character list. Then it hit me – Aloy! Doesn’t her passive specifically say animals won’t get spooked as easily? I barely use her, but maybe this was her time to shine.
Also, there’s that Kamera gadget. Maybe I could use the zoom? Stand really far back and snap the picture? Worth a shot.

Putting it into Practice
Okay, plan B. Here’s what I did:
- Switched my party leader to Aloy. Just having her there is supposed to work, I think.
- Went back to the Mondstadt bridge. Classic spot, lots of birds.
- This time, I didn’t run. Walked slowly. Really slowly.
- Got maybe halfway across the bridge. The pigeons were still there! Aloy’s magic, maybe? Or maybe I was just far enough away.
- Equipped the Kamera from my inventory. Didn’t use the fancy event one, just the basic gadget.
- Used the Kamera’s zoom function. It’s not great, but it helps a bit.
- Lined up the shot… clicked… got one! Took a few more just to be safe.
Success! Finally got my bird pictures. They weren’t gonna win any awards, mind you, mostly just pictures of pigeon backsides, but hey, it worked. Didn’t need to chase them all over the place. Aloy definitely seemed to help keep them calm, or at least less likely to bolt instantly. Combining her passive with staying back and using the Kamera zoom was the key. Took a bit, but got it done.
