Okay, so I’ve been getting into basketball lately, and one thing that kept bugging me was the ball size. Like, are all basketballs the same? Turns out, nope! So, I did a little digging and hands-on experimenting, and here’s what I found out.

My Basketball Size Experiment
First, I grabbed my old basketball from the garage. I had no idea what size it was – it was just the basketball, you know?
Then, I went online and started reading. I learned there are actually different sizes for different leagues and age groups.
- Size 7: This is the official size for the NBA and most men’s leagues. It’s the biggest one.
- Size 6: This is for the WNBA and women’s leagues, also good for younger players.
- Smaller Sizes: I found some smaller sizes too, even mini ones, for kids, I think.
I pumped up my old ball and measured the circumference (the distance around). It’s pretty near size 7.
After getting the measurement, I went to a sports *’s so cool!I checked out some Size 7 balls, and yep, they felt pretty much the same as my old one. Then, I grabbed a Size 6. It was noticeably smaller and lighter, and my hands which are not that big, fit that ball pretty well!
I even dribbled both balls a bit in the store (hope no one minded!). The Size 7 felt powerful, but the Size 6 was easier to control. I am just a beginner though.

It is a fun experiment for me today, and now, at least I know what those numbers on the basketballs * I got a new basketball for myself which size is 6.
