Okay, so I was messing around online the other day, and I stumbled upon this crossword puzzle, right? Now, I’m not usually one for crosswords, but this one had a clue that caught my eye: “MMA ref’s call.”
I’m a bit of a fight fan, so I thought, “Hey, I might actually know this one.”
I started brainstorming, thinking about all the things a referee might yell out during a mixed martial arts match. You know, stuff like “Fight!” or “Break!” But those didn’t seem to fit the crossword format. The LA Times crossword, it was.
- I racked my brain, going through all the possible scenarios.
- Did it have to do with a submission?
- Nah, that didn’t feel right.
Then, I remembered something about a certain number of answers they found online. I think the number 40 and 30 popped up as possible answers found in their database. And that number was related to another date, the second of June, 2024, or something.
Then it hit me. The answer was staring me in the face the whole time. It’s the most common way a fight ends, other than a decision. The ref steps in, waves his arms, and that’s it. Game over.
The answer, my friends, is TKO.
Technical Knockout. Three little letters that signify the end of a bout. It felt good to crack the code, even if it was just a small win. I went back and checked online, and sure enough, TKO was the right answer. Who knew, right? I guess even a simple crossword puzzle can give you a little thrill sometimes. I even saw a random paragraph about plastic pawns and some game called “Juego del pato”, which is apparently a sport in Argentina that involves horses. That was odd, but hey, the internet is a strange place.
Anyway, just wanted to share my little crossword adventure. Makes you appreciate those refs a little more, huh? They’ve got a tough job, and one little call can change everything. So, yeah, TKO it is. Solved that puzzle like a champ.
