Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “MMA Guns” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a ride. I wanted to get a better handle on creating some cool weapon models, and I figured this was as good a place to start as any.

First, I spent like an hour just trying to figure out where to even begin. I was looking at all these tutorials, and they were all using these fancy tools and I was just lost. I finally managed to find some beginner-friendly stuff, and then I downloaded a free 3D modeling program. Nothing fancy, just something to get my feet wet.
Then came the actual modeling. Oh boy. It was a lot of pushing and pulling vertices, trying to make a basic shape that vaguely resembled a gun. I started with, I guess you’d call it the body? The main part. I kept messing up, hitting the undo button like a million times. Seriously, I think I spent more time undoing than actually doing.
- First try: Total disaster. Looked like a melted ice cream cone.
- Second try: Slightly better, but still, no.
- Third try: Okay, we’re getting somewhere! It actually has some straight lines!
After I got the basic body down, I moved onto the smaller details, like the trigger and the sights. Those were even harder! Tiny little pieces, and my clumsy fingers kept making them all wonky. I ended up simplifying a lot of stuff, just to make it easier on myself.
The Results?
Well, it’s not going to win any awards, that’s for sure. It’s pretty blocky, and the details are rough. But you know what? It looks like a gun! A very basic, very simple gun, but a gun nonetheless. I managed to get something from start to finish, and that’s what I’m most proud of. I actually created something. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and it’s a start!
Next time, I’ll try something a little more complex, and add texturing to it!
