Today I decided to dive into “MLB The Show” and try out some base-running tricks. You know, the kind of stuff that can really give you an edge. So, I’m gonna walk you through what I did and how it went.
Getting Started
First off, I picked a player with decent speed. You gotta have someone fast if you’re gonna be aggressive on the bases, right? Then, I waited for my turn at bat.
The First Attempt
Alright, so here’s the game plan: as soon as the pitcher starts his motion, I’m sending my runner. I got my guy on first, and the pitcher begins his wind-up. I hit the button to send my runner flying towards second.
- The Pitch: It was a slow curveball.
- The Result: My runner made it to second base! It was a bit close, but he was safe.
Protecting the Runner
Now, sometimes the pitch is gonna be fast. So when I see a fastball coming, I tried to swing at it. This is more about protecting the runner than getting a hit. I figured, at worst, I’ll foul it off, and at best, it’s a hit-and-run situation. I mean, there are new rules now, so the pitchers can only try to pick you off twice, so why not?
- Scenario: Runner on first, fastball coming in.
- My Move: I swung and made contact.
- Outcome: It was a weak grounder, but my runner still advanced to second. Not the best hit, but hey, it worked!
Trying for Third
Stealing third is a whole other ball game. I heard somewhere that if the time from the pitcher’s release to the catcher’s mitt is over 2 seconds, you might have a shot. So I gave it a go, with my average-speed guy.
- The Setup: Runner on second, eyeing third.
- The Attempt: I waited for what felt like a slow pitch and sent him.
- The Result: He was out. It was close, but not close enough. Maybe I should have timed it better, or maybe he just wasn’t fast enough.
Experimenting More
I spent the rest of the game just trying different things. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. I even got caught in a rundown once, which was pretty embarrassing. But, you know, that’s how you learn.
What I Learned
Base-running in “MLB The Show” can be a lot of fun, but it’s also a bit of a gamble. You gotta be quick, make smart decisions, and sometimes just get lucky. I’m definitely gonna keep practicing, because there’s nothing like the feeling of swiping a base when no one expects it. That’s it for today’s gaming adventures, folks. I hope you enjoyed this little play-by-play of my base-running escapades.
