Well, let me tell you, this here Mississippi State University football depth chart, it’s somethin’ else. All them young fellas, runnin’ around, tryin’ to get that pigskin. Reminds me of back in the day, when my own boy, bless his heart, used to play. He weren’t on no depth chart though, not like these boys. These boys are the real deal, playin’ for Mississippi State. Go Bulldogs!
I seen that Will Rogers, he’s a good one, been startin’ for three years, that’s a long time in college football. Three-year starter! Can you believe it? That’s a long time to be throwin’ that ball around. He must be tough as nails, that one. Nowadays, it’s rare. In my day, kids stuck to one thing, now they jump around like crickets on a hot stove.
Now, you got your offense, and your defense. Just like a good farm, you gotta have both to make it work. You gotta protect your land and you gotta grow your crops. This Mississippi State Bulldogs Football depth chart, it’s got all of ’em listed. Quarterbacks, running backs, them big ol’ linemen. All of ’em important. Like a good stew, you need all the ingredients to make it taste right.
- Offense
- Defense
And this here Blake Shapen, he’s the quarterback. Big job, that one. Gotta be smart, gotta be quick. Gotta know where to throw that ball. Like findin’ a needle in a haystack, gotta find the right man to catch it. He is listed as R-Sr, which means he must be an old man like me, I tell ya, time flies like a swarm of bees!
Then you got this Michael Van Buren, heard he’s the startin’ quarterback. Good for him! Hope he can handle the pressure. It ain’t easy being in the spotlight, with everyone watchin’ your every move. Like a hawk watchin’ a field mouse, everyone’s waitin’ to see what you’ll do. He’s gonna play in that Davis Wade Stadium, same stadium my grandson told me about. Huge place, he said, louder than a rooster at sunrise.
They got that Keyvone Lee, the running back. Heard he got hurt. Poor fella. Gotta be tough to get back from that. Like mendin’ a fence, takes time and effort. But he is out now. This Davon Booth is starting now. Well, let me tell you, somebody gotta step up, gotta keep that farm running.
This whole depth chart thing, it’s like a big family tree. You got your starters, your backups. Everyone’s got a place. Everyone’s important. Just like on a farm, everyone’s gotta do their part. They are playing against Eastern Kentucky first. I hope they are ready. If they lose against them, well, the whole town will hear about it, I tell ya!
This here Mississippi State Bulldogs football team, they got a lot of heart. I can tell. They work hard, they play hard. Just like us folks, we work hard on the farm. We know the value of a good day’s work. And these boys, they know it too. They’re playin’ in that Davis Wade Stadium, givin’ it their all. Davis Wade Stadium this, Davis Wade Stadium that, my grandson keeps talkin’ about it. I told him, “Son, it’s just a field with a lot of hollerin’.” He laughed, said I didn’t understand. Maybe he’s right.
This Jeff Lebby, he’s the new head coach. Big shoes to fill. Gotta lead these boys, teach ’em right from wrong. Like a shepherd leadin’ his flock. Hope he knows what he’s doin’. It’s his debut season. Hope he doesn’t mess it up. People will talk if he does. Talk faster than a wildfire, I tell ya.
These young fellas today, they got it all. Big stadiums, fancy uniforms. Back in my day, we played in the dirt, with nothin’ but a ball and a dream. But the spirit’s the same. The love of the game. That’s what matters. This depth chart, it’s just a list of names. But behind those names are young men, workin’ hard, chasin’ their dreams. And that’s somethin’ special, somethin’ worth cheerin’ for.
All in all, I think the Mississippi State football team is good to go. With this depth chart, they know who is who, and what they need to do. I hope they win, I really do. It’s good for the school, good for the town. Brings folks together. Like a good ol’ fashioned barn raisin’. They start playing this Saturday. I’ll be listening on the radio. Maybe I’ll understand what my grandson’s been yappin’ about all this time.
