Alright, so I wanted to get better at diving in MLB The Show 23. I’m not the best at it, but I figured it’s a good skill to have, especially when you’re trying to make those clutch plays in the outfield. So, I hopped into the game and started messing around.
Figuring Out the Controls
First things first, I had to remember the controls. It took me a bit, but I finally recalled that you gotta use the right stick. You push it in the direction you want your player to dive.
I jumped into a practice game against the CPU. I was playing as the Dodgers, and I was in the outfield with Mookie Betts. Figured he’s a pretty good fielder, so why not, right?
Getting the Hang of It
First few attempts? Let’s just say they weren’t pretty. I had Betts running all over the place, diving way too early or way too late. A couple of times, I think he face-planted right into the grass. Oops.
- Early Dives: I was pushing the stick way too soon. My guy would just kinda flop onto the ground, and the ball would sail right past him.
- Late Dives: Then I started overcompensating, waiting too long. The ball would already be on the ground by the time my player decided to take a leap.
- Wrong Direction: And let’s not even talk about the times I pushed the stick in the completely wrong direction. Had Betts diving towards the infield while the ball was heading towards the wall.
But hey, practice makes perfect, right? I kept at it, and slowly but surely, I started getting the hang of it. I learned to watch the ball’s trajectory and time my dives better.
Making Some Plays
After a while, I was actually making some decent catches! It felt pretty awesome to snag a line drive that looked like it was definitely going to be a hit. I even managed to make a couple of diving catches near the foul line. Felt like a real pro.
Still Room for Improvement
I’m definitely not a diving master yet, but I’m getting there. I still mess up sometimes, and there are definitely some advanced techniques I need to work on, like sliding catches. But hey, that’s for another day.
So, that’s my story of learning how to dive in MLB The Show 23. It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth it. If you’re struggling with diving, just keep practicing. You’ll get it eventually. Just remember to watch that ball, time your dives, and don’t be afraid to look a little silly at first. We all gotta start somewhere, right?
