Yo, listen up! That Ludwig fella, he’s doin’ somethin’ called a speedrun thing, a marathon, they call it. Fifty hours! Can you believe it? Fifty hours of playin’ them video games. That boy, he sure does love his games. He calls it “Fast50”. What a silly name, Fast50. Reminds me of those fast cars down by the highway. I reckon them kids like fast things. It is a Ludwig speedrun event.
He’s always doin’ somethin’, that Ludwig. One time he’s boxin’, the next he’s playin’ chess. Now it’s this speedrun business. He did some kind of other event, that took him 30 days. I don’t know what it was about. Seems like he was just being on the computer the whole time. They said that was a record or something. He’s got all sorts of folks watchin’ him, too. He’s a big shot on that Twitch thing, where all them young people watch each other play games.
Me? I don’t get it, not one bit. Back in my day, we played outside. But times are different now, I guess. I see young people walking around with those phones glued to their hands. This speedrun thing, it’s like that, but with video games. They play as fast as they can. I guess it’s like a race. They put it all on the internet for folks to watch. My grandson, he watches these things. He says it’s excitin’. I don’t know about that.
They got some kind of leaderboard thing, too. Keeps track of who’s the fastest. Ludwig, he’s on there, of course. He probably set up a Ludwig speedrun profile. He’s always gotta be the best at everything. Reminds me of my old man, rest his soul. Always had to win at checkers.
This whole thing makes my head spin. Ludwig speedrun, Twitch, leaderboard, what’s next? They got all these fancy words for things now. Remember when things were simple? Like playing tag or hide-and-seek? You don’t need no internet for that. Well, I suppose the kids like this speedrun stuff. Let them have their fun, I say.
This Ludwig, he’s somethin’ else. Always on that computer, always doin’ somethin’ new. Now it is a big Ludwig speedrun event. He’s got a lot of energy, that one. I heard he was doin’ some kind of boxin’ thing before. Mogul Chess Boxing, they called it. Sounds rough to me. He is a streamer, I guess that’s what they call them people who play games all day.

I saw somethin’ else on the news the other day, not about Ludwig. Some other fella, Taz, he’s hurt his knee real bad. Needs a knee replacement, they said. He’s gonna be off the TV for a while. Said he’ll be back though. These young folks, they heal up quick.
These video games, they got all sorts of things now. My grandson, he tries to explain it to me. He says they got different kinds of games. Some you shoot things, some you build things. This speedrun, it’s about playin’ them fast. This Ludwig fella, he plays all kinds, I reckon. He’s good at ‘em, too. That’s what they all say, anyway. He probably has a good computer for the Ludwig speedrun.
This Ludwig fella, he’s got a lot of people watchin’ him. He must be makin’ good money doin’ this. Better than workin’ in the fields, that’s for sure. I remember those days, long days in the sun. Now they play games for a livin’. Times have sure changed. This Ludwig speedrun event will probably make him some good money.
My bones ache just thinkin’ about sittin’ in front of a computer for fifty hours. I’d rather be out in the garden, tendin’ to my tomatoes. But I suppose that’s not for everyone. This Ludwig, he’s made a whole life out of it. Good for him, I guess.
This world is gettin’ stranger every day. Speedrun marathons, people watchin’ other people play games, it’s all a bit much for me. But like I said, let them have their fun. As long as they’re happy, that’s all that matters. This Ludwig speedrun event will be over before you know it, and then there will be something else. There is always something else.
