Today I tried to make a song, just like Tyla’s “Friends”. Got inspired, you know?
First thing, I listened to “Friends” like a hundred times. Really wanted to catch that vibe. It’s got this cool mix of Amapiano and R&B, so I was like, “Alright, let’s do this.”
I started messing around with my keyboard. Needed a catchy melody, something that would stick in people’s heads. Played around with some chords, trying to find that sweet spot. Took a while, honestly. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
Then I got to work on the beat. Downloaded some Amapiano drum loops, because that’s where the magic is. Layered them up, added some kicks and snares. I wanted that bouncy, energetic feel that Tyla’s got in her tracks.
Drums are the key!
- Found some cool Amapiano loops online.
- Added some extra kicks and snares to make it pop.
- Played around with the tempo until it felt right.
Once the beat was in place, it was time for the bass. This part was tricky. I needed something that would groove with the drums but also stand out. Experimented with different basslines, using my MIDI controller. Finally settled on a deep, rolling bass that really filled out the sound.
After the foundation was laid, I started thinking about the vocals. Wrote down some lyrics, just some simple stuff about friendship and good times. Nothing too deep, just keeping it light and fun. Recorded a few takes, trying to get that smooth, laid-back delivery like Tyla.
The recording is fun.
- Set up my mic and interface.
- Recorded the vocals in my closet for better acoustics.
- Added some reverb and delay to give it that professional feel.
Mixing was the next big hurdle. This is where all the elements come together. Adjusted levels, panned instruments, added some EQ to make everything sound clear. It was a lot of trial and error, but eventually, it started sounding like a real track.
Finally, I listened to the whole thing from start to finish. Made some last-minute tweaks, you know, just polishing things up. It wasn’t perfect, but it was mine. And it definitely had that Tyla “Friends” vibe I was going for.
So yeah, that’s how I spent my day. Making music is just so much fun. It’s like, you start with nothing, and then boom, you’ve created something. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll make a hit like Tyla. A guy can dream, right?
