Okay, so the other day I got curious about the Irish Golf Open. Can’t remember why exactly, maybe I saw something about golf on TV, or maybe it just popped into my head. Anyway, I decided I wanted to see a list of the winners over the years. Seemed simple enough, right?
So, first thing, I grabbed my tablet, opened up my usual web browser. Nothing fancy. I went straight to the search bar. What did I type? Something straightforward like “Irish Golf Open winners list”. Pretty direct.
Digging Through the Results
Hit enter and, boom, loads of results popped up. As usual, you get a mix. Some news articles about the most recent winner, some official tour sites, some sports stats pages, and yeah, a few wiki pages too.
I clicked on one of the first few links. It looked promising, like a sports stats site. It had a list, sure, but it was kind of cluttered. Ads everywhere, and you had to click through different years sometimes. Not quite the clean list I was hoping for. A bit annoying, honestly.
So, I went back. Tried another link. This one was better, looked more official, maybe part of the European Tour site? It had a history section. That seemed more like it. I scrolled down, and yeah, there it was. A list going way back.
- Started from the most recent winner.
- Showed the year.
- Showed the winner’s name.
- Sometimes mentioned the score or the course, but I mainly just wanted the names.
It was pretty good. Much clearer than the first site. I spent a few minutes just scrolling through, recognizing some famous names from the past. It’s interesting to see the different eras of players who’ve won it. Found names like Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Pádraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy… lots of big names there.
Getting the Info Sorted
I didn’t need to do much compiling, thankfully. This second site was decent enough. I just mentally noted some of the winners I found interesting. Didn’t bother writing it down, was just satisfying a bit of curiosity.
It wasn’t too hard in the end, but it did take a couple of clicks to find a source that presented the information clearly. The first attempt was a bit messy, which happens a lot online, I find. You gotta sift through a bit to get what you actually want.
So, yeah, that was my little dive into finding the Irish Open winners. Just a simple search, a click or two, and found what I was looking for. Job done.
