Alright, let’s talk about this Kenny Pickett fella and his money situation, you know, that contract thing. Folks keep jabberin’ about it, so I figured I’d try and make some sense of it all, the way I see it, mind you. No fancy talk, just plain and simple.
So, this Kenny, he’s playin’ for them Steelers, right? Football team, big fellas runnin’ around. They went and give him a piece of paper, a contract they call it, back in 2022. Said it was for four years, and the whole shebang is worth somethin’ like 14 million dollars. That’s a whole lotta hay, wouldn’t ya say? Fourteen million dollars! Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it.
Now, that don’t mean he gets all that money at once, no sirree. It’s spread out, you see. They give him some every year. Like this year, 2024, they say he’s gonna get close to two million. That’s still a pile, even if it ain’t the whole fourteen. But see, it ain’t all just straight pay, it’s got all sorts of stuff mixed in. They got this thing called a “salary”, that’s the regular money he gets. Then there’s a “roster bonus,” that’s extra money just for bein’ on the team, I reckon. And then there’s this “cap hit” and “dead cap” talk, which I ain’t quite sure about, but sounds like more money things.
- Salary: That’s the regular pay, like when you work a day and get your wages.
- Roster Bonus: Extra money for just bein’ on the team, like a little thank you.
- Cap Hit: This one’s tricky, but it’s somethin’ about how much he counts against the team’s money limit.
- Dead Cap: And this one’s even trickier, somethin’ about money they still gotta pay him even if he ain’t playin’ no more.
Anyways, this year, 2024, they say his salary is somethin’ close to a million, and then he gets another million in that roster bonus. So, all together, it’s close to two million. That’s a heap of money for throwin’ a ball around, ain’t it? But I guess that’s how it is in the big leagues.
Now, they say his contract goes all the way to 2026. And every year he gets a different amount. Next year, 2025, they say he’s gonna get even more, somethin’ like 2.6 million. But like I said, it ain’t all just straight pay, it’s got all them bonuses and stuff mixed in. Makes it hard for an old lady like me to keep it all straight.
They also talk about this “average annual value,” which is supposed to be how much he gets each year on average. For Kenny, they say it’s around 3.5 million dollars. That’s a lot of money, no matter how you slice it. I mean, think about how many chickens you could buy with that! Or how many acres of land! It just boggles the mind.
And get this, they even talk about how much other quarterbacks are makin’. Like this Wilson fella, he’s gettin’ a whopping 39 million for the year! But see, the Steelers ain’t payin’ all that, just a small part, somethin’ over a million. The rest is comin’ from Wilson’s old team, the Broncos. Sounds complicated, don’t it? All these teams and contracts and money flyin’ around.
Now, I hear some folks sayin’ that Kenny’s gettin’ paid too much, and others sayin’ he ain’t gettin’ enough. Me, I don’t know nothin’ about that. All I know is that’s a whole lot of money, and I hope he’s savin’ some of it for a rainy day. You never know what’s gonna happen in life, especially in that rough and tumble football game. One minute you’re up, the next you’re down. That’s just the way it is.
So there you have it, that’s what I make of this Kenny Pickett contract thing. A whole bunch of money, spread out over a few years, with all sorts of bonuses and stuff mixed in. It’s enough to make your head spin, but that’s the way they do things in the big leagues, I guess. Me, I’m just gonna stick to my garden and my chickens. That’s a kind of work I understand.
And one last thing, all this talk about paying contractors, like 29 bucks and some paperwork. I don’t know what that’s got to do with Kenny, but it sounds like somebody’s tryin’ to make a buck off of him. Always someone tryin’ to get their hands in your pockets, that’s what I say.
