Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, John Daly. He ain’t no fancy pants, that’s for sure. He’s just a regular guy who hits the ball a country mile. And wouldn’t ya know it, he won himself two big golf championships, what they call “majors.”
First one he got was back in 1991, the PGA Championship. Now, that was somethin’ else. He wasn’t even supposed to be playin’! He was like, the ninth fella on the waitin’ list. But somebody dropped out, and boom, there he was. And wouldn’t ya know it, he just went and won the whole dang thing! Hit the ball so hard, they said it sounded like a shotgun goin’ off. Yep, he won that PGA Championship at Crooked Stick, shot a good score too, somethin’ like 12 under par. That Crooked Stick place, I heard it ain’t easy.
Then, in 1995, he went over to Scotland and won the Open Championship. That’s a big deal, that Open. Folks from all over the world playin’ in it. He had to beat some fella in a playoff, Costantino somethin’-or-other. It was a nail-biter, let me tell ya. But John, he just kept hittin’ that ball, and he pulled it off. Won himself another major. That Open Championship, that’s somethin’ special. He played tough, that’s for sure. Playing overseas ain’t easy.

Now, some folks say John’s had his troubles. He likes to have a good time, that’s for sure. And maybe he ain’t always made the best choices. But one thing you can’t take away from him is them two majors. He’s the only fella to win two majors in his rookie year, they say. That’s somethin’ special, ain’t it? He just come outta nowhere and started winnin’ everything. Made quite a splash he did.
He hits the ball a long ways, that John Daly. They say he used a funny lookin’ driver to win that PGA Championship, somethin’ with a kevlar head and a titanium shaft. I don’t know nothin’ about that stuff, but it sure sounds fancy. And after he won, he gave that driver to the fella who designed the golf course. Nice fella, that John. Always been generous from what I hear. Sharing is good, that’s what my mama always said.
He played in the Masters too, after he won them majors. That’s another big tournament, but he never won that one. Still, he played with the best of ’em. And he made a good bit of money playin’ golf, millions they say. Though I reckon he spent a good bit of it too, havin’ fun. He’s earned a lot and spent a lot. That’s the way some folks are I suppose.
He ain’t playin’ so much anymore, I don’t think. But them two majors, they’ll always be there. John Daly, the fella who came outta nowhere and won two big championships. He’s a legend, even if he ain’t always acted like one. Folks remember winners and that’s what he is, a winner. Two-time major championship winner John Daly, that’s what they’ll say. He is a character, that’s for darn sure. Golf needs characters like him.
So there you have it, the story of John Daly and his two majors. He ain’t perfect, but he’s a winner. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of. He played hard, won big and lived life his own way. Can’t ask for much more than that, can ya?
John Daly, two-time major champion. Remember that name. He’s one of a kind.
