Well, lemme tell ya, folks, there was a mighty sad moment durin’ the Marshall Thundering Herd football game last Thursday night. They was playin’ against the James Madison Dukes, and it sure wasn’t a good night for them Herd. Now, I don’t know much about them fancy football plays, but what I do know is that somethin’ real bad happened to one of the players, young JJ Roberts. Poor feller got hurt real bad, and it was a sight to see, let me tell ya.
Now, JJ, he’s from Cabell Midland, a good local boy. His injury happened in the fourth quarter, right in the middle of the game. The whole thing had to stop ’cause of how serious it was. I seen folks jumpin’ up, shoutin’, and even the coaches looked like they were worried. Coach Charles Huff, he said the medical folks did a great job, but still, it’s scary when one of them players goes down like that. Ain’t no game more important than a player’s health, I always say.
It happened when Marshall was already down on the scoreboard, losin’ 20-9 to them Dukes. Now, I don’t care much about the score myself, but when you see a player go down like that, you forget all about the game. I reckon a lot of folks at the stadium was feelin’ the same way. They was all waitin’ to hear if JJ was gonna be alright. That’s just how it is in football, I suppose. A tough sport, but one that sure can make ya worried sometimes.
Well, after the injury, JJ was stretchered off the field. They say he couldn’t walk, and the ambulance had to come get him. It left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth, even after the game ended. It was real hard to hear the coach not know what to say about it. I’m sure they all felt helpless, like us folks who don’t know how to help ‘cept prayin’ for the young man. Ain’t no news on how bad the injury was, but you could tell it was bad enough for them to stop the game.
It was a tough break for Marshall, no doubt. They been fightin’ hard all season, and to lose like that, especially with one of their own goin’ down, well, it just didn’t feel right. But football’s a dangerous game, I reckon. They play hard, and sometimes, the injuries happen. Ain’t no way to avoid it, though I wish there was.
So, now we just gotta wait and see how JJ’s doin’. We all hope he gets better real quick. Injuries like that can be scary, and it’s a long road to recovery, I’d guess. It’s a real shame when a good young player has their career threatened by something like that. But I’m hopin’ that boy pulls through, ‘cause he’s got a lot of heart, and I reckon he’ll be back out there soon enough.
In the meantime, Marshall gotta keep goin’. I know it ain’t easy after somethin’ like this, but that’s the nature of the game. Players get hurt, teams lose, but life keeps movin’ on. I know them boys in green and white are tough, and they’ll keep fightin’ for JJ, that’s for sure.
