Okay, so I’ve been wrestling with this all week: Javonte Williams. Start him or sit him? It’s been a headache, to say the least. I’ve got a pretty decent team this year, but this one decision felt like it could make or break my week.

First thing I did? Dove into the stats. I mean, really dove in. I looked at his performance so far this season, his average yards per carry, his targets in the passing game… everything. I even checked out his snap counts from the last few games to see if his playing time was trending up or down. The numbers were okay, not amazing, but certainly not terrible.
Then I started checking out what all the “experts” were saying. You know, the fantasy football gurus who supposedly know everything. I read articles, listened to podcasts, the whole nine yards. It’s funny, because half of them were saying to absolutely start him, that he was due for a breakout game. The other half were saying to sit him, that the matchup was tough and he wasn’t getting enough touches.
Digging Deeper
So, the experts weren’t much help. Classic. That meant it was time to get my hands dirty. I decided to watch some of his recent game footage. I wanted to see how he was running, not just the numbers. Was he looking explosive? Was he breaking tackles? Was he getting open on his routes?
- Checked out his performance from past 2 weeks.
- Looked at the running ability and yards per carry.
- Considered all the advice the experts gave.
Honestly, he looked… fine. He wasn’t setting the world on fire, but he wasn’t a total dud either. He had a couple of nice runs, a few decent catches. He seemed to be getting a little more involved each week, which was a good sign.
Next, I considered the opponent. Who were they playing? How was their run defense? Were they giving up a lot of fantasy points to running backs? I looked at their defensive rankings, their stats against running backs in previous games, everything I could find. Turns out, they were pretty middle-of-the-road. Not a great matchup, but not a terrible one either.

Finally, I took a look at my other options. Who else could I start instead of Javonte? Did I have any other running backs with a better matchup or a more consistent track record? I went through my roster, player by player, comparing their stats and matchups. I had one other guy who was a possibility, but he was also a bit of a question mark.
After all that, I still wasn’t 100% sure. It was a real coin flip. But, in the end, I decided to start Javonte Williams. I figured he had more upside than my other option, and I was feeling a little bit risky. I also saw some positive progression. Plus, that gut feeling, you know? Sometimes you just have to go with your gut.
Now, we just have to wait and see if I made the right call! Wish me luck. I’ll update this next week to let you all know how it went. Hopefully, I’ll be celebrating a big win, thanks to Javonte!
