Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this thing called an “Irvin Box,” and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a ride. I wanted to share my whole experience, start to finish, so here we go.

Getting Started
First, I had to figure out what this thing even was. I did some digging, looked at some pictures, and basically tried to get a feel for the materials. Seemed simple enough: cardboard, some tape, maybe some glue. I gathered all my stuff – a box from an online order, some packing tape I had lying around, and a pair of scissors. Basic, right?
The Build
I started by cutting. The plan, as best as I could figure, was to make some flaps and folds to create a sort of… I don’t even know… a box within a box? It wasn’t super clear, to be honest. I taped some edges, folded some cardboard, and honestly, just winged it for a good portion of the time. There was a lot of trial and error. A LOT.
- Cut the cardboard: This was the easy part, mostly straight lines.
- Fold and tape: Here’s where things got tricky. I had to kind of guess how it all fit together.
- Curse a little: Okay, maybe more than a little. There were some frustrating moments.
- Re-tape: Because the first attempt usually didn’t work.
The… Result?
After a while, I ended up with something. It wasn’t pretty, and it definitely wasn’t perfect, but it kind of resembled the pictures I’d seen. It was a bit lopsided, the tape was a mess in places, and I’m pretty sure I used way too much. But hey, it held its shape… mostly.
Figuring Out the “Why”
Honestly, the whole process had me wondering why I was even doing this. It was a fun little project, a way to kill some time, and it definitely got me thinking creatively. Would I do it again? Maybe. Would I do it better next time? Absolutely.
I think I kind of made it.

I hope you can get some takeaways from my experience.
